Back straight. Look to the side and touch (but do not rest on) your chest. Hand width can vary, but should not change mid-set. Make fists, not open hands.

Pushups are not in Starting Strength.

Therefore only members of the Taliban and Deekos do pushups.

You don't want to be a Deeko, do you?

STICK TO STARTING STRENGTHAWWWRSAAAASGGHHHHGGAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!

It's worth a shot.

Pushups are a great bodyweight movement, but only up to a point since incorporating some form of progressive overload is difficult. Unless you feel like having somebody hold 45's on your back while you do them.

I personally think it's silly to pay $25 (or however much they are) for something to help you do a bodyweight exercise. But some people say it helps their wrists. I don't do pushups so I guess those that do on a regular basis would know better.

op, to give you some feedback, I absolutely love perfect pushups. I have owned them for some time now. I used to kill my wrists doing normal pushups, and always hated doing them for that reason. I picked these up, and the movement is very fluid, does not strain the wrist at all, and honestly gives me the best pushup workout I ever had. Your entire upper body will kill after using these the first time, no joke. I think you can pick these up at costco for like $30 now, I bought them for $40 from amazon.

Check out amazon.com for more reviews, lots of positive feedback on these bad boys. I definitely recommend them.

Anyway, now that the children have gotten their jabs in, a similar, and probably cheaper, alternative is to use dumbbells when you do pushups. You obviously don't get the wrist-turning, but you do get the raised effect which makes pushups MUCH harder, in my opinion.

I saw these on tv myself and was also curious.

I always just use my fists instead of open palm.
This pops all the capillaries in my knuckles when I'm doing them with my feet up on a chair and makes them red for a day, and I'm afraid of dumbbells rolling out from undernearth me, again specifically when I'm doing them with my feet raised.

I used them at a friend's place, they were too easy to do that way, even compared to a regular flat palm or knuckle push-up.

That's how I do them, it's never been a problem. You do have to stabilize yourself a little, but it's part of what makes it more challenging.

Those hand-grip devices look comfy on the hand, but if you aren't required to do a military push-up with hands under the shoulders, you don't need them. I'm training with under the shoulders, which kill my pinky fingers. If I could spread by hands out more, it would be so much more comfy. Oh, and I suck; only up to 15 and stuck.

I use them myself but not instead of other arm/shoulder/chest exercises. I complement my workout with them. I am seeing good results from using them, especially in my pecs.

Wiser words have not been spoken. Ring pushups allow for great range of motion, for you to stabilize both your arms and core, and are relatively cheap for the amount of things you can do. Rings all the way.

Man... my dad got a pair of these and I used them last thursday. I couldn't fully bend my elbow until yesterday. They give an excellent workout, it's actually quite similar to the balancing effect of doing dumbell benchpress. I highly recommend them for the price.
