most of these people arent looting to survive, theyre looting to get free sh!t, and get back at "the man".

i see what youre saying. i live in pensacola (pace actually, 8 miles to the east). when ivan came, everyone here made sure that they had water, food, and essentials (batteries, water, food, a radio, etc.) even so, it was 3 days before any relief came to my area. 3 days with no water, ice, or food available. yet, there was no looting at all here. none. people helped each other out. no one was breaking down the walmart or windixie or jewelry store doors; stealing tvs, shooting each other, etc....

im not trying to compare what we dealt with to the situation of katrina. but, its not like they didnt have warning, and couldnt prepare. im all for feeding your family and survival, but this sh!t is beyond that.

I know it's a bit melodramatic, but this thread really reminded me of my second favorite passage from Grapes of Wrath.

the people came for miles to take the fruit, but this could not be. how would they buy oranges at 20 secnts a dozn if they could drive out and pick them up> and men with hoses squirt herosene on the oranges, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the fruit. a million people hungry, needing the fruit -- and kerosene sprayed over the golden mountains.

Not to be racist, but notice how 99% of them are all black, and do it in f ront of National TV wth NO SHAME whatsoever?

If I did that and saw a camera, I'd turn around and put the stuff back.

Did you watch the videos on TV? Most of those looters don't look like they have missed many meals in their lives.....they aren't hungry, they aren't starving....they are opportunistic thieves and sadly quite proud of their actions based on the way they act in front of the cameras.

I noticed that too... I'm waiting for Jesse or Al to put their faces on TV and call the networks racist for not showing any white looters.

I can almost hear the news producers now... "DAAMMIT! Please find ONE white guy so I can get Jesse off my ass!!!"

Lethal force is the worst idea in a long, sad history of bad ideas. So many things can go wrong, and it won't take much before we have a lawsuit in addition to a national catastrophe.

the majority of the new orleans population is black.

the majority of the black population lives in poverty.

the majority of the people living in poverty were unable to escape the city.

thus, the majority of the people left in new orleans are poor and black. even if 50% of the remaining population were looting, with a population composed of 80% blacks and 20% everyone else, the fact that almost all the looters you're seeing are black doesn't seem like a race issue, but rather, a demographics issue.

It does not matter, people in poverty still have legs and can walk. And no matter what class you are looting is wrong. They are thinking of themselves cause they just suck, plain and simple. I hope they die

Oh yeah, and what do you think they are gonna spend the money on that they get from the loot? I bet drugs, booze, and useless crap :|
 
Dumb asses, would they realized that looting will effect the economy? the managers and store owners lost all of their stock and will be in debt (especially with all the damages that already happened) which lead to no jobs, no work, no money. Idiots
 
No home. No food. No water. No electricity. No property. No money. No job. No contact. No family. No friends.

People are desperate. Give them a break. Imagine losing EVERYTHING, and then try to understand a little bit of the insanity and grief all these people are going through.

Looting is BY FAR a secondary concern right now. Yet too many of you are ready to waste your breath ranting about it.

Let's see...millions of dollars worth of items looted vs. billions upon billions of dollars in damage, lost wages, lost revenue, etc.
