Yeah, IGN has an article on it too......on that link that you included, Adul, the 5th set of pictures down, IGN says that there's a Telephone pole in the distance, and they zoom in and you can kind of make it out. Odd.

Shorter movies + no bonus material == pan & scan and widescreen on one disc.

But pan & scan is evil, so I'd just as soon not have it suck up valuable content space on my discs.

YEa yea widescreen is great but sometimes I enjoy watching certain movies pan and scan on DVD.

If your DVD player has it, use the Zoom feature. However, it's not as good as "intelligent" pan and scan.

Because people are stupid, and they want extra crap.

Give me the movie, plus any theatrical trailers, all presented in anamorphic widescreen.

If you have space, toss in a 4:3 version of the movie for those times when I put on a movie for other people and they don't like widescreen.

Make it double sided if you must, but for god's sake don't waste disc space with useless crap that nobody watches.

Wrong. All rentals, at least in my area, are widescreen (if widescreen is an option). The only exception is if it's an older movie that was originaly transfered as P&S and later re-released in WS (BB wouldn't buy the new WS version to replace the existing P&S version all ready on the shelf).

I am really surprised at how WS friendly BB is. We barely even carry any P&S versions for purcahse, and every BB employee I know will always recommend (even argure if it comes to that ) Wide Screen to customers.

Just buy it, you will watch it more than once and it is only $15.99 at Best Buy for either wide screen or full screen.

No, and it would be silly to do so since 1.85:1 movies would then have black bars on the SIDE.

Maybe that petition was created in error?

The only thing I can think of is there are some franchise BlockBuster and they might do things differently. But every Corporate owned Blockbuster is the same. Corporate sends us movies (we don't request inventory, we get what they send us) and it doesn't seem logical that Corporate would send P&S to some stores and WS to others. Go to Blockbuster.com and click on a DVD. Then look at the "DVD Features" line (last one, on the list to the right of the DVD coverbox image). It will say if the movie is avaible in WS or PS (if it doesn't specify then I assume the movie was shot in 4:3). Most movies will only come up as "WS." Bigger movies (LotR for example) will come up as PS and WS versions (which means we stock PS for sale, but I've never seen PS for rent before). If that still isn't enough to convice you you can click on the store locator, and find out which version yer local BB has for rent ("LTBX" is short for Letterbox").

Personally, I'm surprised how quickly BB is making the switch to DVDs. Before the end of the month our store will be around 50% DVD, 35% movies, and 15% games in terms of shelf space for rental product (for simplicity's sake I'm ignoring the fact that you can fit more DVDs on a shelf then you can VHS tapes). In 12 months I bet you'll only be able to rent new release movies on VHS. Everything else will be DVD.

Wide screen gives you the whole picture just like you would see in a theater, full screen cuts off the sides of the picture to make it fit your tv, if you had a wide screen tv you would not have those black bars.

It's days like this I'm comforted by my purchase of a 55" Mitsubishi Widescreen HDTV (tuner built in).

And yes, LOTR looks fantastic on it! Tonight, I'm actually going to watch the whole thing through. Since Tuesday, I've been looking at different screens.

Personally, I wonder why they even bother with the P&S version.
