McCain, the guy which many people thought would run on the Dem ticket with Kerry?

Rumsfeld has "relied upon the judgment of the military commanders to determine what force levels are appropriate for the situation at hand," Di Rita said.

Suuuure he has, just ask Shinseki...

Pentagon spokesman Larry Di Rita said McCain "has frequently expressed his views regarding troop levels in Iraq, and he is an important member" of the committee.

Rumsfeld has "relied upon the judgment of the military commanders to determine what force levels are appropriate for the situation at hand," Di Rita said.

That is kissing up to the boss way to much.

Rumsfeld relied on the opinions of those that ran the political side of GWI when he made the military decisions regarding Iraq. He was more like McNamara than Cheney.

He's one of the few people on the republican party that democrats have any respect for anymore.

So, just because he criticizes Bush, you stop liking him? What's the logic in that? I could understand if you stopped liking him due to some policy he has or if he screwed up to much. But not liking him because he criticizes Bush, just doesn't make any sense.

You do realize if none criticizes Bush (Or any president for that matter) they'll most likely just do whatever they like, and none will be there to stop them if they screw up over and over, right? Trust me, it's a good thing when people in your own party criticizes you. It means you aren't just surrounded by yes men, it means you have people who will let you know if you screw up.

Those who object to McCain's criticism seem to want a perfect world where the President and his cabinet never make mistakes.

Who is more qualified to make judgments about the state of our military? McCain has credibility- Rumsfeld is merely an administrator.

I'd say that is a bit overstated.

but McCain himself fanned the flames when he said last week on an ABC News show that he would "entertain" joining Kerry on the Democratic ticket.

I don't mind criticism of Bush...but he can just as easily do it in private. McCain no doubt has the ear of the President, and could easily just give him a ring and express his concerns without going public about not liking Rumsfeld. He was the same way during the campaign, he barely even supported Bush and never criticized Kerry. Don't get me wrong, I think McCain is one of the most honest politicians around (and a great man), but I don't personally like his politics that much.

Ah, I see. You're the type who prefers things be dealt with in private? I can understand that. Still, when it comes to politics, it's often good when the public is told of these things and other matters like it. It's tied in to accountability. If it's put before the public, the politicans (Not just the president) are more likely to fix, or at least improve things that aren't working well.

He was the same way during the campaign, he barely even supported Bush and never criticized Kerry.

Personally, McCain strikes me as the kind of person who would criticize Kerry just as hard if he thought he was making bad decisions.

Anything specific you don't like about his politics?

So apparently you believe that people with good heads on their shoulders and are honest to the American people should be ousted? Somehow this fits with your agenda, but I can't for the life of me figure out why...

if McCain were to say it to Bush in private, GW would smile, nod is head, and not listen to a single word. by himself, a single Senator is powerless in this issue. president Bush is obviously not inclined to address this issue on his own.

by putting it out there in the press, it gives the public something to think about. if some Republican senators and congressmen start getting letters and phone calls about this issue, threatening to vote against them in the next election, it will force the Republican party's hand into doing something about the Rumsfeld issue.

This is a great thing - a top Party leader, and long-time, respected Senator, speaking out against the attrocity that is Bush's Regime.

Hopefully this "no confidence" branding will snowball into the demise of Rumsfeld, and the demise of support of this sham of Iraqi chosen war.

I'll never understand why McCain just gave up when things got rough back in 2000. He didn't put up much of a fight.

I think he was dumbfounded that someone in his own party, and who professed to be a christian, could stoop to such lows. I'm sure it was very disheartening.
