Of course whenever you want Coke you never choose Pepsi because umm last I checked, Pepsi is not Coke. Also, how could you choose Mountain Dew for your Coke??? You do realize Coke is a name brand and not what you use to describe Soda right? I guess I found what's worse than pop.

So are you one of those people that lecture people when they say they are "xeroxing" something or ask you to hand them a "kleenex"? Like it or not there are lots of trademarked names that have become synonymous with the product or action in general. In large swaths of the US "coke" is just such a name.

I guess when you're less educated and use Coke for all Soda products, it's ok then.

I probably shouldn't bite.

Whatever. Explain.
What symbols alienate those over 18? The $? The ? The *?

I think he meant imagery. I don't have TV, but I know for awhile Pepsi was going for the hip, urban, illiterate crowd.

I stopped soft drinks a while ago. I do drink flavored club soda, but that's it.

Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sunkist - whatever, are all nasty and disgusting to me. I can't figure out how people are capable of stomaching so much toxic sugar sludge.

I'm of this opinion as well. Generally speaking - its water or nuttin these days.

Beer however, good beer that is - is always welcomed.

"Coke" is only generic for a cola. If I ask for a Coke, I expect some kind of cola in return. Otherwise, it's soda for the other flavors.

You know know how many people agree that Coke is better than Pepsi... Around here (I live in the South), no one asks for a 'soda' or a 'pop'. They typically ask for Coke by name because it's become synonymous with the word for Cola. The restaurants that carry Pepsi products around here always have to ask, "Is Pepsi ok?" when people order. :p

I typically call it by name brand whatever it is...ordering a 'pop' in a restaurant to me would be like sitting at the bar and telling the bartender you want a beer. They'd ultimately ask you what brand.

Vanilla Coke > Dr. Pepper > Cherry Coke > Coke > Pepsi Throwback > Vanilla Coke Zero > Pepsi > Coke Zero >>>> Diet Pepsi >>>> Cherry Coke Zero >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Diet Coke.

Of the flavors that I drink or have tried. I'll only drink Diet Coke if I'm literally about to pass out from dehydration and it's the only thing available.

I generally drink Coke Zero / Vanilla Coke Zero these days to keep the calorie count down (programmer), but I have some Pepsi Throwback and regular Coke for the days when I'm actually out and about.

I only drink Diet Caffeine-Free Diet Coke and Diet Caffeine-Free Mountain Dew. Although, from a fountain, I always take Coke Zero over Diet Coke, because Diet Coke tastes really bad from a fountain unlike cans or bottles, but Coke Zero does not. I'm not sure why, but it's really strange.

EDIT:

I actually used to dislike diet sodas because they don't taste as good, but I changed my opinion one day when I was at a hotel and I think the vending machine had Diet Coke. I recalled a friend that pretty much only drank that, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It actually wasn't too bad and it tasted a lot like normal Coke. Combining that with the fact that I got way too much of my daily caloric intake through soda, I decided to drop all non-diet.

As for pop vs soda vs soda pop vs coke... Northerners typically call it soda. Using Coke is more of a southern thing. I do recall someone posting a map of the US that plotted out which areas used which term. You can probably find it with an image search.

EDIT 2:

Here's a map.

EDIT 3:

Nevermind... someone already did :p. Not hard to miss things on a phone.

And the blue states call it Pop.

I rest my case.

But "Pop" is a generic name for soft drinks, using probably the most popular brand name for a soft drink to refer to ALL soft drinks is the dumbest idea ever.

Oh the hipster, "cool to be stupid", bieber bullshit.

Yep. They are currently running an ad with some rapper on a stage made from Pepsi cases. Then there is the odd similarity of their new logo with a certain campaign logo. I was just being sarcastic anyway. Given a choice I will take a Coke over a Pepsi but I'm not devoted to any particular cola drink.

Alabama ain't Georgia. Dawgs > all

Kleenex as a description for snotrag.

Kotex as a description for "any generic period maintenance product"

Tylenol as a description for "any generic painkiller OTC"

Benadryl as a description for "any antihistamine"

Krypto or "Purple Haze" as a description for "any generic dank ass high grade marijuana"

Pampers for "any diaper"

Percocet for "oxycodone"

Manwich for "sloppy joe"

Its horrible I tells ya!

if I went down south and ordered a Coke and they asked me what kind I wanted, I would shoot the place up. That makes about as much sense as using Big Mac for a generic burger term.

"I'd like to order a Big Mac please"
"what kind"
"a Double Whopper with Cheese"
