Jurassic Park was released in 1993, so the only thing I can think of is that they were trying to capitalize on the success of dinosaurs by following the TV commercial formula of showing older kids doing something fun with a new toy that would appeal to younger kids by making it look cool. I'd imagine this show was aimed at middle schoolers or something. It's like they pulled a card out of the 80's. I was half expecting Pauly Shore to show up at some point...

Everything was dinosaurs back then. Flinstones was made into a big movie, Mario had tons of dinosaurs in it, there was a really awful whoopi goldberg cop movie with a dinosaur in it. There were several animated ones with dinosaurs as well. Just lots and lots of dinosaurs... *shudders*
