People with Time Warner RR, do you constantly get 3mbps down?

DL'ing from nvidia yesterday i was getting about 400KBps combined on two DLs, which is 3mbps

Damn I get at the most 300 around there. If I dl two files at once it drops drastically and then splits it among the two files. So say I was getting 300Kbps on one file, if I start another file from the same server, it goes down to 150Kbps each file 🙁

It makes me a sad panda.

Ok so that's the norm. I also get this most of the time.

I have occasionally (depending on the source) do get sustained 380KB/sec. Also check to see if you're running WinXP that the QoS cap is disabled.

I want to say that with multiple downloads I've gotten around 500k total. All I know is that it was pretty soon after they upgraded and I was looking at my speeds and I was DLing a good amount higher than 3mbs. I  RR.

I am running XP. How do I make sure that this QoS thing is disabled?

I would say yes.

I was DLing some files and one was at 270K while the other was running at 120K. Whenever something is slower, I'm assuming its bc of the server at the other end.

BTW, I started playing DC .7 on my new after having been idle for a while (about 6 months) and my pings are in the mid to low teens. On a good server I'll get about 13ms lag.

On my Windows 98 rig (the only one with internet access), I only get 30-40KB consistantly when downloading from IE even on fast servers. When I use download accelerator, I see 200-300KB from the same server.

Doesn't seem like the connection is the problem, just some settings in OS. Wonder what it is.😕

I did a speed test when Brighthouse (Central FL RR) told me they upgraded me from 2Mbps to 3Mbps. Tested out at 2.8Mbps.

I rarely get more than 300kBps on a typical download.

3Mega-bits-per-second = approx 375kilo-Bytes-per-second, so that is about right.

Ditto

Several articles here. Some tell how to modify QoS value, some say how to remove it completely, and some say that removing it doesn't help. Take your pick.

You can either remove the QoS protocol from the network configuration - or an easier way to do it if you're running WinXP Pro is to click START->RUN and type in gpedit.msc and click Okay.

From the Policy Editor, under the section Computer Configuration expand the branch Administrative Templates and then expand the Network branch. Under that you should see a node labeled QoS Packet Scheduler, highlight it, and in the right side pane you should see a key with the name of Limit Reservable Bandwidth. By default it should be Not Configured, you will want to change this to Enabled and adjust the spinbox value to 0%. Close the Policy Editor and reboot for good measure.

350K here solid.

Too bad RR's newservers are so damn flakey. Retention sucks and there are tons and tons of incompletes.

The "only true" way to test the full speed of your cable it to download something directly from an RR server (ie: newsgroups)

If you're going to a non-RR site, you are taking into account potentionally countless bottlnecks or points of failure... you have to stay on-network to see what kind of speed your line is 100% capable of.
