People with recently bought *brand new* vehicles, any complaints? ;)

For anyone that has purchases a BRAND NEW vehicle (NOT USED) in the past 6 months or so, is there anything that just bugs you or has been a little annoying? NO CAR is PERFECT 😀

2002 Highlander Limited

My dad just got it about 3 weeks ago. It has 945 miles on it now (I've put about 800 of those miles on it myself). And I just finished putting 750 miles on it (included in the 945) on our round trip drive up to Baltimore (I drove both ways while my dad slept in the back seat, lazy bum 😉).

Anyway, after putting all of those miles on it since Saturday, I've come to the conclusion that the vehicle is NEARLY flawless except for one thing. Toyota didn't put enough sound deadener in the wheel well, so when ever a tire picks up large rocks or chunks of dried up mud, they **PING** off the wheel wells as they are kicked up. Very annoying although infrequent in occurrence.

My 2 month old Chevy Avalanche is perfect, except you have to SLAM the tailgate to get it to latch properly. Sometimes one side won't latch, and a couple times my wife has closed it and then started driving and it pops open with a huge BAM~!

that sorta sucks.

2001 CL Type S

5 months old, approx 5500 miles

Tires -- Michelin MXM4s. The sidewalls are damn weak. I've already popped one just rubbing up against a curb while parking, and another has an egg in it. My main complaint.

Stereo -- POS Bose system. Can sound really good with acoustic rock or classical, but for any other type of music it sucks ass. In dash 6CD changer is nice to have though.

Sunroof doesn't open as much as I'd like, but I can live with it.

The rubber seals around the doors started squeaking one day, but that was fixed by rubbing a little armor all on them. Guess they got dried out. Gotta remember to do that often!

These are *very* minor gripes, IMO (except the tires). I still love this car! 🙂

Toyota RAV4 (about 11 months ago... does that count? 😉 )

The only complaint i have about it is the infamous dash rattle. do some research, you'll find out what i mean 🙂

2001 Ford Focus SE (wife's car)
6 months old - 8,400 miles

Small rattle in the dash at idle. It goes away as soon as you get the rpm's up over idle. No biggie.

2001 Nissan XTerra

Only complaint is that it needs to be lifted 2". The wheels they put on (after market Perfect 360's 16" with BFGoodRich 36" AT tires) are a little too large for the wheel wells, so if you're turning tightly and you hit a large bump, the front tires rub on the mud flaps. Other than that, I love it.

That could probably be fixed with a timing adjustment.

2001 Honda Accord

Dealership did not have the tires balanced or rotated. took it back to have the oil changed and have them rotated and balanced. They did a crappy job and did not even check the tire air pressure. car still pulled and the dealership said it was probably a radial pull.

Come to find out the honda dealership was just too incompetent to adjust the tire air pressure, then balance and rotate it. Took it to Merchants and they did the job right as well as inform me that this car has never been rotated and balanced properly and looks like it just came off from the truck(strapped down...throws everything off). Still out the money I paid to have honda rotate and balance it, but I am wiser in the fact that honda will never see a penny more of my money for routine maintenance.

So my complaint is that the honda maintenance dept is sorry.

2001 Isuzu Trooper LS. Purchased 5 weeks ago. Love this truck, but the seats are too small and their range of adjustment isn't all that large. The seat cushion could stand to be about two inches wider (I'm not a lard-ass! 6'1", 215 pounds) and could stand to go "back" another two inches. My Honda Accord had much more seat travel.

The seat ARE power though, which is cool. (Never had power seats before 😱) Other than that, no complaints. Truck is rock-solid. Not a squeak or rattle to be found. Gas mileage sucks @ss, but that'll happen with any truck.

My parents just bought a brand new Honda Odyssey. The only problem we have with it is the automatic doors, they only work with you put the car in park. Minor annoyance though, everything else is perfect.

2002 Chevy Impala (all options except leather seats), my mom's new daily driver. Just logged 200miles in it myself, not a single complaint. Nice and solid. Getting great milage with it (did just shy of 30mpg on my trip). I honestly don't know how I can drive an automobile without an autodimming rear view mirror.

NFS4,
That can be fixed with a $4 can of rubberized undercoating. Spray several layers of it into the spare wheelwell. Let dry about an hour b/t coats. That should do it. 🙂

Girlfriends 2001 Grand Am Ram Air GT - Blower motor switch the only mechanical problem so far in about 13k miles.

My Trans Am 9 years old in Feb and to date a set of tires and a battery. ( A little OT I know but I have to say this to offset the "How wonderful is my foreighn car, how crap is your US car" set)

2001 VW Jetta Diesel (love it!)

Had one small glitch in the dashboard lights, VW had the entire dashboard off the car looking for the issue, had it fixed in a matter of hours.

The only 'built in' issue I have with the car is the seat adjustments. To tilt the back of the seat, you have to use this ghetto lil turn crank. Most cars today have a lever you can pull and lean the seat to your desired angle. But not that Jetta, oh no. You have to turn the crank, which is at the bottom of the chair, and not very accessable. My 2 pennies.

how hard is it for you to find a gas station with a diesel pump?
down here theres like no stations in my area with a pump.

i bought my sorta new car like 2 months ago. Its been the perfect car that ive always wanted. no problems with it. none.

buying a brand spaking new car is a waste of money IMHO. You can buy a year old car for many thousands less than their brand new counterpart.

you can buy a brand new honda civic for 18k. Or you can buy a Used 2k1 Acura Integra for 18k. I know which i would choose.

2001 Audi TT Coupe in July 2001. Has roughly 7500 miles.

Passenger sidemarker retaining clip was broken, so it was loose.

Umm.. black looks great, but is a pain to keep clean? Part of the problem is I personally wash the car, so I know where every single little scratch is, and it annoys me to no end.

"Not-quite-a-door-ding" scratches on door.

CD changer only holds six discs.

No Alcantara seats like the S4.

Does not have the cargo capacity of an SUV.

Obviously my car has been really good to me. Save for the sidemarker issue, no manfacturer defects. Nor have I experienced any of the "more common" TT problems either (interior rattles, failed DV, early failure of shocks, bad instrument cluster, bad fuel senders).

Loving every moment of my driving.

Nice Car...I really like the TT in black! My buddy has a 2000 (aircraft gray or something like that). His, however, has the rattling problems BAD! Of course, driving a car with stiff suspension on New Orleans streets couldn't help. Also, his instrument cluster as well as the one in my gf's Beetle were replaced. VW/Audi seems to have alot of problems with that.

BTW, I despise the backseat of that car. Why did they even include it? 😉

2001 Isuzu Rodeo LS
8 months, 19K

I'm loving the way this thing looks more and more every day.

Annoyances... fuel comsumption... 16-19mpg is pretty bad considering how much I drive.

Plain looking interior... Wanted a little more luxury and maybe a sunroof for 30k

Cup holders... awkward positioning...

That's it, actually...

you know power seats annoy me. Just to slow for adjustment for me I prefer the manual seat adjustments.

2001 chevy silverado 4x4

#1 the dealership charged me $25.95 for an oil change. which is terrible. But it was woman's day and if i had the prober genitilia it would have cost $14.95

#2 There is a Governor that shuts the fuel off at 97 MPH .... which is annoying on long trips. =]

Bought 2001 Dodge Intrepid in September (my first American car!) 🙂

Have been very pleased with it, with two exceptions:

1) City mileage is horrible. Getting about 16 MPG. And I'm not a leadfoot (well, sometimes... 😉 )

2) When it's raining (or if there's moisture on the roof) and the windows are cracked, the water from the roof will run into the car. Other cars I've owned have a little "trough" to run the water to the back of the car, but this doesn't. That's the most annoying thing about this car.

<< BTW, I despise the backseat of that car. Why did they even include it? 😉 >>

Because there are no coat hangers. 😉
