I am looking to pickup this MiniDV camcorder. The deal is almost too good to pass up. My question to people with MiniDV cams is what kinda stuff do you do with yours? What kinda stuff can you do with it once it's on your computer?

I have an acient 8mm Sony handycam somewhere in the closet collecting dust (the tape door no longer opens so it wont record anything). It was pretty cool a couple of years ago.

I just want some input on what you guys do with yours.

I do a lot of DV. Besides running projects and presentations, I do a lot of field work using my DV camera and laptop to edit and composite. If you're serious and will use it, you will get a lot out of it. If it's just a camera, you'll find the DV aspect a gimmick, and may not utilize it's capabilities to the full extent.

Make sure if you are purchasing the camera online, that the dealer is reputable, is selling a non grey market camera, and is not going to hit you up for the price of accesories by lowering the price by excluding important things like the battery. And make sure the camera includes a US warranty (if you're in the US).

I hope if you get a camera, you will do a lot with it. With programs like Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, And Avid's, you can really extend the function of your computer and camera.

Be aware though, the computer side of digital video can get expensive. The better programs used in DV editing cost quite a bit, and the equipment you use can add up. But once you see the result, and what you can do, you'll be happy, and find a use for your computer other then browsing the internet and playing games.

Good luck, and god speed.
