I've just started Invisalign and I'm having trouble completely chewing. My teeth no longer line up correctly, meaning when I bite down there's still empty space between my teeth.

i have them still wear them, my teeth weren't that screwed up to start with, my bite has been fine, though i find it hard to pop it back in after i've eaten, seems unclean if i can't brush my teeth. the hardest part of eating is when you get braces tightened or you move up a set...it just hurts then, not fun.

I dunno if I can stand not being able to chew correctly for, oh... five or more months... not to mention the plastic on the invisaligns really chafe up the inside of my mouth and my tongue... ouch :(

yeah the things took a toll on my tongue and mouth for the first one, though now it really hasn't been a problem at all, though i mean if you have been able to chew recently the things shouldn't be moving them so much as to make it impossible to chew now, though i'm no expert

Heh, right now I have to chew funny. My top and bottom jaws used to be able to just go up and down to chew. Now I have to stretch my top jaw forward, my lower jaw backwards, and chew in order to somewhat break up my food... and even then the only teeth that touch each other are my incisors. Meaning my molars no longer contact each other :(

tip, take the orthodontist seriously when he tells you not to eat certain things, and brush your teeth very well or you will get heavy damage

it depends on ur plan...... if u have any kind of orthodontal coverage then it is covered so check with ur insurance company. Invisalign would have cost me 800$ more then regular braces.

I just got my braces off on Thursday. I had them on for 3 years 1 month. My teeth hurt for like 6 weeks after I got them (I was 22 at the time). After I went for my regular adjustment, they stopped hurting a day later. I could eat anything after that except for the few times that they tightened something and they hurt for a few days.

Meh, I kinda of resent braces/invisalign because most people who get them, don't take care of their teeth by wearing their retainers.. I did my best to follow my ortho's instructions but because the wire he put on my bottom teeth was worthless, they have shifted on the bottom now and it's been basically pointless as my teeth aren't aligned either..

I ate but I tried to stick to soft things. My teeth still hurt no matter what I ate but the softer the food, the less stress it puts on your teeth.

I had braces back in early high school. Was pretty awful. Every time I got them tightened my mouth hurt for the weekend. And when I got an expander put in I felt like there was barely any space to swallow.

However it wasn't worse than getting my wisdom teeth out. They also had to remove a molar which was underneath 1/8" of bone or so. I couldn't eat solids for almost two weeks and threw up blood for a few days.

Dentistry FTL. :(

For braces, the pain goes away in 4-5 days. Just suck it up and enjoy fruit smoothies and other non-chewable foods for that first week and you should be good.
