People with dual monitors, what do you mainly use the 2nd one for?

I usually have a couple of msn windows up in it, task manager, and winamp when i'm not working...when i'm working it's awesome to be able to type on the primary while reading off PDFs on the other screen :D

i find it interesting to have task manager up on the secondary when i'm gaming on the primary, and of course msn windows ;)

It's also kewl to be able to have a movie/episode full screened on the other monitor while you're doing something else (usually AT ;)). And when you have a whole bunch of people over it's kewl to have both screens playing the movie full screen :D

I'm a total duallie fanboy really ;)

Maya perspective views/main window on the left, hypergraph on the right.

Or Maya/PS/Illustrator/whatever on the left, tutorial video on the right.

Or Photoshop on the left, Firefox on the right.

I don't have dual monitors at home, but when I've had access to them that's what I've done. :p It's nice.

Everyone has the option for a third, what's your point?

Errr, not really, unless you have a second graphics card or a triple head card.
I would assume spherrod already has 2, and has the output already for a third, which not many people have.
He has a very quick option for a third I would assume, without having to buy and install a load of extra stuff.

whenever i need to type a report from a site, watch dvd and net surf, watch porn and talk on msn messenger, do some editing and have the toolbars on one screen, show off, and whenever someone's visiting i turn on my real-time matrix wallpaper to make it look uber while i do any of the previously stated tasks.

He has to buy and install a second monitor. Everyone else would have to buy and install a second monitor, and a second vid card. Installing a vid card takes about 10 minutes, so he can do it about 10 minutes faster than everyone else. wow.

Yeah, I have a triple-head graphics card so it's all ready to go. I just don't know what I'd use the extra space for.

Edit: I have a spare monitor lying around as well but don't see any reason to hook it up. Anyone use 3 monitors on a regular basis?

A lot.

For programming:
references
forums
db information
etc.

For Home use:
multiple browsers sessions
photo editing
etc.

Sometimes it's CS:S in one and Internet in the other. Usually it's FireFox in one, a DVD in the other. Or Firefox in one, an Photoshop in the other, Dreamweaver, etc.

Basically it's always FireFox in one, and another app in the other

I have 2 at work (Laptop screen with a 21" monitor on a stand above it). Only thing I have on the top one is Firefox. Other than that everything is in the laptop screen. Unless I'm using two programs at once and need to see all the data at the same tie, then I'll move one. But that's about it.

I run four Dell 20" LCD's at work. I typically keep Outlook, outlook reminders, WinAmp and two or three Corporate IM screens open on one; my ERP software open on at least one, maybe two depending on how many things I need to be looking at; web browswers (at least seven at any given time) on a third; and depending, the fourth is used for development - be it web or ERP, or remoting into one of ten servers or workstations.

Very useful for typing reports. Saves a lot of time and confusion. Also nice to put IMs on the 2nd monitor while you play CS or something so you can actually see them.

I also set my 17" LCD on top of my tower and turn it towards my bed so i can lay and watch movies or TV shows. :)
