I work in an office and while there isn't a dress code people wear decent clothes (with the exception of a few). Anyhow, so today being Halloween, a few people got dressed up and I think they look ridiculous and unprofessional.

Is it just me? This one guy is a freakin whoopie cushion and is going around making fart noises at people...seriously...WTF?
 
I think that in a fairly casual environment, it's perfectly reasonable to dress up on Halloween. I don't think I would, but I wouldn't necessarily think less of someone else for doing so.
 
I hate halloween for this exact reason.

If I see another mother fucking jedi knight with a super loud light saber toy I'm going to lose my shit.
 
I hear ya man, all my co-workers came in today dressed like business executives and wall street bankers. It's scary as hell. What really freaks me out is the fact that they dress like this everyday.
 
i came in to the office as The Joker last year. my costume was pretty decent, i spent a lot of time on it

I dressed up as a software developer today.
Some of the people at work have some pretty creative costumes.

I'll agree with you Platypus, that people who bring in trendy annoying noise generators need to stfu, but lots of people here (Wags corp in Deerfield) have very nice costumes IMO.
 
Heaven forbid in a business casual environment someone looks unprofessional one or two days a year. You should start a union to bring control of this issue in hand and stick it to your boss for allowing such an outrage.

Some people in my office paid 3 dollars to NOT look like uniformed members of the air force : )
 
We are supposed to be business dress but some people wear whatever they want. We have a few people in costume. I'm usually too busy to worry about how others are dressed.
 
I'm going as Luigi this year. It's a plain enough costume... and yeah, it has overalls, but that's about the silliest looking part of it.
 
maybe cuz I never liked Halloween. My biggest gripe was the constant stream of fart noises. Any time a new person comes past his desk. But this guy is annoying the other 364 days a year too.
 
If you want to play dress up that's fine with me but leave your fucking toys at home, people need to get work done not play with toys.
 
Anyone watch the Office last night? See Creed's costume as the new joker? THAT was freakin' epic. 😀

If I could pull that off, I would dress up. Otherwise, I'm in my regular white shirt + tie outfit today.

What do you do? What does the company do? What do the people that are dressed up do?

Typically, where I work (a large engineering firm), mostly it is hte secretary's that dress up.
