Because:
1) People think they are more special when they learn something new ... but never realizes he/she might have grown up and it's time to let go.
2) People starve for attention. Crypted letters make you read the sentence at least twice. If you do that, the likelyhood of someone reading your name in a forum post increases.
3) People think it's funny and unique ... but doesn't realize that it isn't funny anymore since thousands of people do the same exact thing, thus losing all uniqueness.
