Yep

Or governor just made a mandate that anyone who wants to waive vaccinating go to the health department for a waiver. We have a bad wooping cough outbreak :colbert:

you see how the numbers have spiked for things like autism rates and people get scared when no one can give them answers.

Yeah, a healthy vaccinated kid is always out trumped by some lame brained web post in some forum that morons listen to and repeat to other morons.
If you seen it on the net, it must be true?
Believing unsubstantiated moronic hearsay over scientific medical fact.
Example, it was in fact Michele Bachmann that started all this bs fear over the HPV vaccination.
One thirty second statement from a moron, and for others life long suffering from some HPV related cancers.

The sad thing is not what people say or might believe.
The sad thing are many of these same morons are elected public servants AND given a soapbox to spew their BS crapola from atop.

Take cigarette smoking.
Many smokers in their 20's, 30's, 40's poo poo that smoking is bad.
One lady I know actually refuses to quit because her father stopped smoking, and died 3 months later.
So in her mind, smoking was keeping him alive.
So probably also keeping her alive as well.
"I won't quit, I might die".

But what really happens is when all those young smokers reach their 50's, all the health issues smoking causes begin to catch up.
Instead of living a long healthy happy life well into their 60's and far beyond, the smoker experiences a ton of health issues, medical expenses, and their stupidity then effects many others as well.
Leaving family and friends morning their loss at an early age from their bad habit, or that smoker huffing and puffing just trying to walk up a short flight of stairs.

Forget about vacations, enjoying those golden years, enjoying the grand kids.
The only vacation will be recovering from bypass surgery in some hospital.
Those golden years lugging around an air tank.
And those grand kids will grow up with their only connection to grandpa is when visiting grandpa's grave.

And if all those young smokers doubt all your smoking years won't catch up to you before you know what the hell happened, think again.
Today, sitting there looking kool puffing on a cig.
Tomorrow, lugging around an air tank.
Not very sexy. Especial considering your only 50 years old.

You know that's just an excuse and not the real reason why she still smokes right?

And AT is quite likely a far more educated sample of the population. Truly sad.

Yeah but there's also JC to consider.

I wouldn't assume that out of hand, people can be extremely irrational when something emotional (like the death of a parent, and their own death) is involved. I once had the pleasure of knowing a guy that was certain he was under siege by spirits/demons because his dog was sometimes restless, and his dryer would thump and vibrate. Granted, he also did meth for several years and had other problems besides, but still. Take the craziest thing you think a person can ever do or think, and there will be some guy somewhere that did something crazier for an even worse reason. There's always that one guy.

Do a little research and you will see a lot of these outbreaks start with illegal/legal immigrants but since that doesn't fit in the picture the media wants to paint, all we get are stories about the crazy anti-vaccine crowd. Half truths are often lies.

It's likely, but not certain, that she just wanted to shut him up about quitting smoking. Most smokers know the negative health effects.

I'll bet it worked too.
"I might die if I quit smoking!"

"Oooook...<walks away>"

You're right though I can't presume to know if that's what is going on in her head as I can't read people's minds I haven't even talked to. That's just the most likely scenario given most smokers do know it's bad for them.

Conversations with smokers often go like this:
"You should quit smoking it's bad for you. It can lead to cancer, cardiovascular disease, emphysema..."

"I know I should. I've tried to but I can't seem to quit."

Now why do you suppose a person can't just decide to quit? Because their conscious mind is not in control of that behavior. Their subconscious is. By default, people are not even aware of their subconscious let alone what it's doing, why, or how to change it.

How many times did you blink in the last minute? You have no idea because that is a subconscious process that "runs in the background". Only now did you become aware of it. Sure you always knew you blinked, but you don't have to think about it, it just happens automatically. You're not usually consciously aware of it.

Most people would be utterly surprised at how many subconscious processes are running in their mind at any given time. I can list some if you're interested.

Negative behaviors are often subconscious because if they were conscious you could just decide to stop doing them, they would be fully within your control. You wouldn't be telling people "I try to but I just can't".

Most of us are smart enough not to believe everything we read on the internet.

Especially anything that comes from right wing news sites as they are mostly full of shit.

Yep, fuck free will. amiright!?
We don't live in a state of nature where it's every man for himself. As part of society, we have to balance the needs of society versus the freedoms to do what we, as individuals want.

Just like the tragedy of the commons - we can all do whatever the fuck we want, but screwing everyone, including ourselves over in the long run, or we can sacrifice a tiny portion of our freedom for the greater good.

On top of it all, these are parents refusing to vaccinate their children. It's not the parents who are going to bear the debilitating conditions (including death) that can easily result from any number of these vaccine-preventable illnesses. It's going to be their children that suffer, along with other parents' children who get sick (yes, they could be vaccinated, but there are cases where the vaccine doesn't work properly; eg: vaccine not taking hold, immune compromised, allergy to vaccine ingredient, too young to be vaccinated...). The latter case, why do you get to ignore their choices? Maybe they don't want to consent to being around someone's potentially disease-ridden child.

is it just me? i read "people who skip vacations are incredibly selfish"

LOL, i like this like is the most selfless thing you are do for your coworkers.

I don't worry about this issue because a) I improved my children's genetic profile by mixing their races and b) I vaccinate my children.

So, these anti-vaccine people are simply helping clean up the gene pool as far as I'm concerned.

I'd like to know if an anti-vaccine parent ever lost a child to their stupid ass decision, had another child, and still chose to not vaccinate. Or did they change their mind on the matter their second time around?

When I was a kid, you couldn't go to school without your shots being up to date. What the hell happened to that? Sounds like there's too many loopholes that the law needs to close toutsuite.
