People who refuse to work

Over the past 20 years or so, I have seen the younger generation take on an attitude of not having to work, living off the system or living off other people.

I know a couple of people who refuse to work. One guy is married, has 2 kids, and he "might" work 3 or 4 months out of the year. He takes short term jobs that he knows will come to an end and he will get laid off. After getting laid off he will draw his unemployment benefits until they run out, and "then" he will look for a job. On the other hand, his wife works a full time, 40 hour a week job.

If you do not want to take care of your kids, why bother having them?

By not working, sitting your butt at home, what kind of example are you setting for your kids? Will the kids grow up thinking the man is supposed to sit home and the wife work full time? I see nothing wrong with the women working, but raising kids should be a shared responsibility.

The husband goes back to mooching off the system. He works long enough to get unemployment benefits built back up, then gets laid off and draws a check for at least 6 months. Works "maybe" 2 months, gets laid off yet again and draws an unemployment check for another 6 months. And guess what, the kids are on medicaid. So not only is the father of the kids not working, but the kids insurance is provided by the state.

Another change in our society that I have noticed over the years, and that is home ownership. It seems that the younger generation overspends, buys a home they can not afford, or better yet, rent and never buy their own home.

ITT:
Mooching off the system
Laziness and not supporting your family
Overspending
Not having the desire to own a home

November 15, 2011 Update

It happens because our government supports it and society accepts it. 50 years ago it was shameful, now it's resourceful.

And P&N is over there

Because we live in an entitlement society now. People have figured out that if you simply stop caring...about anything, you will do just fine. People adapt to a lifestyle of not having a whole lot in life, but not having to do anything at all for what they have. They become comfortable with that and then become a burden on the rest of us, who would rather work and have nice things.

Instead of taking a hand out and paying it forward, our society has just decided to take the hand out, and then ask for another hand out. Those 17-20 year olds you see are probably a by-product of our new society.

Or it was their day off, or they work the night shift, or go to college.

I don't understand your story. It was 7:15am and the older boys were waiting on the city bus, or school bus? Maybe they were going to a different school (shared bus). Or maybe they were on their way to work. Maybe they work weekends and it was their day off.

You judge people too much. (I do too)

Or Uni.

Also Work doesn't start at 7:15am for a hell of a lot of people.

they are just fallowing the lead by business's. ask for government handouts!

but i do think the op is idiot. there are to many things the kids could be doing. they could work night, they could be off, they could be visiting family, they could going to college, or whatever.

or they are family visiting the younger kids? or mentors and seeing them to the buss? who the fuck knows.

and at 7:15 i would just be getting ready for work. not everyone starts at early..

I live in a rural area, the thought of mass transit never crossed my mind. The thread title was changed to reflect a school buss.

I dont guess you read the whole OP?

Changing the thread title doesn't explain why you think it's weird that they aren't on their way to work at 7:15am?!

If I ever have kids (god forbid) they will have a job at 16. If they can't find one then they will work for me for free until they can find a job that will pay them.

Yeah, it was a good opportunity for a quick rant. But really, who the fuck knows what they were doing.

I can come up with a laundry list of productive things they may have been doing, as well as a laundry list of bad shit.

Maybe they were tappin the 14 year olds, then going to an alternative school that starts a bit later in the morning. People have judged them all their lives, so they decided to do something about it. They use their own money to take the public bus system downtown to attend the alternative high school with a low success rate. But these kids won't give up, they'll keep trying and make it til the end and graduate with a real diploma, not a ged. And then they'll tap the 14 year olds again.

I think its a pretty safe bet if 2 kids are screwing around at a bus stop and then walk home they are capable of working a job.

That it is, it's also a pretty safe bet that they could start work at any other time throughout the day, I've never had a job that starts at 7:15 am and I don't know many people that have.

Read the "whole" opening post, and then come back and post something.

It appears to me that people are reading the OP title, the first couple of paragraphs, then posting a reply.

Why does it not bother you that someone refuses to work, and has their kids of state supplied health benefits? But all people want to talk about is the kids at the bus stop, which was only used to get the thread started.

WTF does the bus story have to do with the rest? Confusing op is confusing.

EDIT: Dude, stop making excuses. Your op sucks ass. This is how I am reading it...

1. Young kids use public transportation
2. Older teens/young adults don't use the high school bus
3. Guy purposely maxes out unemployment benefits
4. Therefore he doesn't take care of his kids
5. The younger generation gets into too much debt

Well reasoned and put-together op not found.

I read it three times and I still don't get it. What the fuck does the two kids at the bus stop have to do with the rest of your post?

I read every part of it.

This is the part that confused me:

If the 2 older kids are not going to school, why aren't they on their way to work at 7:15am?

Why is 7:15 such a shocking time for someone not to be on their way to work for you?

With regards to the health benefits thing, people like that exist in every society, some people are lazy, yes it pisses me off but what are you gonna do about it? Some people genuinely can't work and those people deserve our support. Lazy people do not.

Well... it's fair when others say that you could very well be judging them unfairly. You have no idea what they do for the other 23.7 hours of the day. And their circumstance are probably totally unrelated to your friend who's wife works full time but he doesn't.
