people who pay $0.99/song for download == dumb

Why is paying a buck for one song you really like instead of dropping a $20 on a whole CD to just get one song dumb?

funny thing is in real life, i usually buy the bulk over the individual because it's "cheaper".

but i don't go around calling people who choose NOT to do that dumb. that's what i don't get. JUST because I don't see the value of buying something individually over buying bulk means anyone who does choose to buy individually over bulk = = dumb??

that's just plain BAD logic.

What if i want to d/l [say] all songs from "Astral Projection"..is there a way to preview all songs BEFORE i d/l ? Because...i dont know all songs of them...but i'd want to have 'em in my collection. So...if i d/l and 8 out of 10 songs are crap.....i have the SAME problem on itunes (whatever) than i have in a store. ANd..in the store i might even be able to listen before i buy.

Just one example.

But..if you think that $0.99/song is a good deal...then ok..... keep downloading 🙂
You can listen to 30-second previews in almost any music selling app (iTunes, for example) or at ANY site that sells music - CDNow, DeepDiscountCD.com, etc.

Exactly, looks like you don't know much about the programs to be calling them dumb.

Let's just do the math and see which is cheaper.

Cost of soda the grocery store = 40cents + [( earning power/hour)*time spend shopping]

Cost of soda at the machine <=$1.00

Cost of soda at the machine < cost of soda at the grocery store

So by your logic, if I buy a single can of soda at 7-11 for 50 cents, I am dumb be cause I could have the 384 can pack at Sams Club for $80.

Is there seriously a 384 can case of soda?

Cause flexy said so.

Who or what is a "Flexy" sounds like some gay porn star name:Q

Last few CD's i've bought:
Finger Eleven - Finger Eleven
A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step
Jack Johnson - On and On

Songs I like on the CDs - every single one of em. Plus I get them lossless, rather than in mp3/aac which are lossy.

let's do the math and see.

cost of soda in grocery store 40 cents X 6 sodas + the cost of the refrigerator i need to keep in my car in order to keep the soda cool, vs

buying a $1 soda at a machine.

hmmmm. which one makes more sense now??

i'm not saying people who don't buy from vending machines are dumb. i'm saying people who don't see the value of buying from vending machines given certain context are dumb.

i drive 5 to 6 hours per day.

mb i should put a refrigerator in my car, but you know, there are costs associated with that beyond JUST the price of the refrigerator.

for me, it just makes more sense to stop at vending machines.

Right. if im out driving around (used to drive over an hour to work and back) and i want a cold pepsi then a vending machine or gas station is the only place to get one.

unless they have a small fridge that will fit in my car then i guess im out of options.

Just my personal pet peeve, but you guys talking about "lossy" formats better have $6,000 sounds systems you are listening to this stuff on because with a good encoding process, I would be willing to bet you can't tell the difference otherwise. Yeah, I know I'm not an audiophile, but this seems like ricers talking about air filters making their car faster. Yeah, maybe it makes a little difference, but the important thing is, can you notice it?

Edit: Oh yeah, as for the topic, I think the pick and choose argument usually stands up for itself. Not to mention that I can preview a song and download it all by itself 30 seconds later for 99 cents without getting out of my chair. But I'd really rather get in my car, drive to the store, wait in line to buy a CD filled with songs I don't want when I'm just going to use my computer to listen to them anyways. Sure sounds dumb to me.

i knew at least ONE person on ATOT would agree with me on this. 🙂

'==' is used to compare. Since you are assigning the title 'dumb' to those people, you would use just plain old '='.

I have neglected to read the rest of this thread, but wanted to point out that ANY new CD can be had at Best Buy/Circuit City/etc for $9.99. If you CAN'T find a brand new CD for $9.99, then call me and I'll find one for you. Oh ya, this only applies to regular, single-CD releases, usually in their first week or two. 😛

Small 6-pack cooler < $10
Reusable ice pack < $2

Having a cold soda without having to stop and find a vending machine = priceless.
