look around for a retpile swap. In northern IL we have a reptile swap and you can get baby ball's for $5-20 depending on the time of year.

they also carry pretty much everything else you can think of.

but if you go to a pet store they are $50-120.

Balls are great. You can handle them a bit since they are pretty docile. I had 2 ball pythons (a ghost one at that!) and had to give them away since i was living in a 2 bedroom place and my wife was pregnant.

thinking of getting another set. Now that i moved into a larger house

they have 2 ball pythons, and 2 king snakes and a something else, the ball pythons are 89/99 each. all their snakes are captive born and breed.

how good are king snakes as pets? i want to try and get her something pretty, even though i think the ball pythons are amazing looking, i want to know all of my choices from there.

Male ball pythons only get to be about 4 feet in length on average, and a 3 foot x 2 foot cage would be more than adequate... but that cage would be too big for a baby

weve already figured we will have to purchase a small 10 gallon cage of some sort for it while it is younger.

If you buy them from breeders, they offload them as fast as they can at $20... pet stores will rip you off for $80 or so, and it is probably a wild one captured or hatched in africa and shipped over here, and could have mites, ticks, etc...

Try to find a local breeder, and you can get a male for under $30 im sure, and it will be CBB (bred in capture) so should be very healthy.

the pet store only has normal ball pythons so yea.

purchased 10 gallon cage, heating lamp, and a pad. ive got a acurite therm in there on the very left side, with the other guage under his hide, letting everything get settled down, i really need to figure out how/where to put the contact paper to get the hum. up to par, i dont get the snake until tomorrow however and thats when he will be introduced.

about a 2 ft ball python, with nice color. he wasnt the "most desirable" of the two, but i think he is the prettier one of them.

i think it would be much nicer in terms of a nice cuddly/playful snake.

...

my co-worker had a ball python at work and it was neither cuddly nor playful. it's a snake not a puppy. it did bite him one time, which i thought was hilarious.

how was it not the "most desirable"?

the color, it didnt have the a strickingly white outline around its spots unlike the other one.

ah okay i thought maybe this one was more prone to trying to kill you, but it was cuter.

wow a ball python that actually tried to bite? i have had around 5 of them and NEVER had one try to bite me. though i did handle a rat then stuck my hand in to change water. the snake did not like that heh. was looking at my had pretty close.

MIKEMIKE:

What does it eat? white mice or rats? live or dead?

the person who checked us out was unsure, the ball python is still to small to be sexed so sex is unsure. the person who did the snakes had left. im pretty sure it can eat fuzzies already as thats what the lady who checked us out said was about the right size (she owns one)

she said to feed it freshly killed, out of the habitat.

yeah he was feeding it live mice by dangling them in there. then he put his hand back in there after handling the mice, i think it thought his hand was food. regardless it was funny.

everything ive read says NOT to do that. because your hand provides a larger heat signature than the mouse, and the snake may confuse the two.

so it was his own damn fault.

yeap it is 100% his fault.

I order my mice from www.miceonice.com or buy them frozen from the local pet store. I have a pair of 2ft tongs i use to wiggle the mouse so it looks alive.

ok, up to 88.3 inside the Hide, without a guage on the glass, so im figuring thats a lil higher than that which might be bad. we are getting a Tstat tomorrow which hopefully has a probe i can attatch to the glass under the hide to turn it off around 90F which i figure will make the cage slightly cooler.

also in the cold area we are at aabout 79F which seems about right.

overall humidity is 44% slightly lower than it should be but i think i have some more ideas how do get humidity higher...

they are large, i didnt have time to resize.

any thing i should change in that? heatlamp is very very rarely on now, temps should rise, i attatched the UTH to the glass now...
should be getting a TSTAT today

Ball pythons are very tame and mine will actually seek a person out and hang around them (for heat) if you let him roam outside his aquarium.

Pic

What prevents them from eating you?

Isn't it cruel to keep a 4 foot long snake in a 3 foot long cage?
