Cause they've been stared at by a greater quantity of people their whole lives. And by looking at the mirror critically, they get to judge themselves instead of other people doing it for them. It's like a sense of taking back control.
I have a really attractive face and tend to look at the mirror more than other people, I also get self conscious when people catch me staring at myself
