Are completely misunderstanding the point of the sandwich. It's supposed to be an entire meal in a single, convenient, easy to eat package. Therefore, if you want chips/fries, they need to go IN the sandwich/burger, not next to it on the plate :colbert:

No, it is NOT meant to be a complete meal. It was a convenient one-handed, mostly mess-free calorie delivery system for a person who was too busy to eat a meal. It was meant to be bread and meat, nothing more. All the other stuff was added later.

People who put potato chips on a sandwich are heathens. And people who put fries on a sandwich are even worse.

I'm fine with that as long as the fries/chips are actually served on the sandwich; it's delicious, and it was made that way. But I'm not opening up every burger I get so I can dump a bunch of fries in it. That's the behavior of a madman.

People who order Reubens without 1000 Island/Russian are worse.

Why would anyone do that? It's not a Reuben without all the ingredients.

I sometimes put chips on a sandwich, but not often. I rarely eat coldcuts, and when i do it's usually an Italian sub, and chips aren't right on that.

The art of eating the sandwich:
1) Obtain sandwich
2) Peel off top slice of bread and discard
3) Peel off bottom slice of bread and discard
4) Enjoy the good stuff
5) Eat a cookie for dessert

If you are going to eat carbs at least make them worth it.

Get a big slab of meat. Pile typical sandwich ingredients in the meat; lettuce, tomato, cheese, mustard, mayo, pickle, some peppers, additional meat. Roll the meat up like a tortilla. That's a fucking sandwich. Bread just ruins it.

What about someone who puts fries, chips, mozzarella sticks, and perhaps one or two other things on their sandwich?

Bread's the best carbs there is. I'm currently debating on grilled cheese for dinner. It'll be rye bread, Swiss cheese, and tomato soup, or bean and cheese burritos with lots of hot sauce. I'm leaning towards the grilled cheese.

I can't eat a sandwich without some kind of side. Usually it's chips but sometimes I will have fruit. Eating just a sandwich feels so pathetic. I need a meal.

That's like a cheeseburger without cheese and screw those people.

A cheeseburger without cheese is a hamburger.

There's a local breakfast place that serves a dish called the "Eggless," which is basically just a big hash over house potatoes. But they give you the option of ordering it with eggs. So you can order an "Eggless with eggs" and lose all self-respect in the process. What the hell is the point of that?

Cheese does not belong on a sandwich unless its the only thing on it, i.e, grilled cheese.

It depends on the cheese. If you serve me a burger with American cheese, I will throw that garbage at your face. However a nice cheddar or pepperjack is always delightful.
Cheddar is nasty on cheeseburgers. American cheese's sole purpose for existence is to cover hamburger.

I concur! People not putting chips or fries IN their burger or sammy are missing out!

Heck, Bobby Flay does that to his burgers and are charging an arm and a leg at his restaurants.
