I love that. The jughandle I mentioned above is right around a curve in the road, and the view to the light is obscured from the previous light. Because the previous light has no road on the right side, people routinely drive right down the shoulder past cars at that light and run the red light- they don't cross any traffic lanes in doing so - and every once in a while there is a cop waiting around the bend to nail them. I love it.

What amazes me most is that I see this stuff happen all the time on the way to or from work, but once they get to the open road where they can speed up they drive the speed limit! So it's not that they're in a hurry, they just don't like being in lines. It's like in the grocery store, people will spend and hour walking around picking out products, but if they have to wait in line for 3 minutes it's the end of the world.

That's a pain in the ass and merging. You don't merge at 35mph! That's by far my biggest peeve. On my daily commute, I exit an expressway and merge onto a parkway. There's a whole 5 seconds to actually merge, with 5 seconds before that to get up to speed. Yet you still see people only start to speed up to 40mph at the last second.

I'll go out of my way to keep them from merging.

I've had two experiences where the same dick-head who attempted this happened to be getting off on my exit. The exit is an off ramp up to a 4 way light. There are two lanes, one left turn only, and one right turn/straight (in case you need to get back on again lol). These two different idiots actually tried to take the left turn with me from the right lane. Well, needless to say, I went from the turn lane into the right most lane after getting on the street, and the idiot was totally blown away.

These people are f-ing retarded. I've almost got my ass-hole meter down to a science, now. I can almost 90% of the time tell you just by watching the way someone is driving or acting, whether or not they're going to do something frickin stupid or rude. This is why there wont be any flying cars for a LONNNG time. Not because of the lack of technology, but rather because people cannot even master walking, much less driving, and MUCH MUCH less FLYING.

These guys aren't trying to piss you off. If I understand you correctly, your response is far more juvenile and likely to cause an accident.

Explain to me why I should hand anything to them for being pricks? No, if they want respect they can get it by not being disrespectful in the first place.

In gridlocked traffic, refusing to help the jerk out isn't dangerous, either.

It's not like I'm actually going "out of my way", I just said that for effect. It comes naturally to me. :p

If I'm reading it right, you illegally turned into a lane to piss off another driver (left turn into right most lane on multi-lane road). That's illegal and dangerous.

If you play their games, you're no better then them. Especially when you're jeopardizing the safety of others.

I hate those types of intersections. We have them in the Chicago area, that's for sure.
The worst spots I've seen are the Elgin-O'hare expressway, Just west of Rohlwig rd to past the Meacham rd Exit. About 1 mile or so of people passing on the right .... to avoid 5-10mph crawling .... (There is a stop light there, but it still saves em time.)
Then there's about a dozen or so intersections along palatine rd where people like to pull those maneuvers too.

Ahh well. I work from 10am to 6:30pm now, so I can avoid much of the busy traffic.

Its those stupid fuckers that let them in! If everyone blocked them they would be screwed and would stop doing it. But even if I block them, the car behind me will let them in. Or the car behind them. And they usually come out way ahead.

They are just like water...finding the easiest path.

Uh no. I don't move anywhere, I just close my gap, look them in the face and shake my head. Usually anyone with half a brain gets it.

Or...the absolute fucking BEST is when they stop where the onramp meets the highway with their directional on waiting for an opening! Please kill yourself!

That is not right - they are the ones you should be mad at.

People who do this will generally work their way into the left lane whether you "let" them or not. I prefer keeping the same distance I normally would in traffic and not do anything reckless so I don't cause an accident.

Flipping them off regardless doesn't hurt, though.

While breaking on the on-ramp shouldn't be necessary, there are times when it is.

Ideally a merge should be like a zipper, each car is far enough from the one in front of it that the two lanes can simply combine. However idiots don't like to merge and get as close as possible to the car in front of them.

Generally, the person who is currently already on the highway should never have to hit their brakes, the person getting on should time it well enough to fit in between the two cars, so breaking is sometimes needed.

Break what? Beer bottles? Break legs? Break dance?

The only time I BRAKE ;) on an on ramp is if I'm going faster than the traffic I'm merging with and need to slow down to merge.

My biggest non-highway related driving peeve is when people gun a left turn as soon as the light turns green. In Chicago there is rarely a turn arrow for the left turn lane. You generally have to wait until the light turns red before you can turn left. People seem to think the solution to this is to gun it through the intersection, cutting everyone off, the instant the light is green.

Or when there IS a green arrow, but when the green arrow ends they all close the gap between them and the cars in front of them and keep turning, blocking all of the opposing lanes so a few more people can turn. When they do that I just start accelerating. They entered the intersection on a red light, I'm not going to let them impede me. When I'm in their situation, I stop when the protected green ends and turn when I can (if it is legal to do so). I'm sure that pisses off the people behind me, but c'est la vie.

I hate when people do that too.

Somewhat Related, on intersections that DO have turn arrows, I also hate those fvcktards who keep turning after the turn arrow is gone, the ones who block traffice from starting after their lite is already green .....

Also, I hate tolls. Even with "open road tolling" I hate the tolls. No matter how "perfected" the toll booths are, they still fvck up traffic some way or another.

During my morning commute, I see this girl in her lime green beetle do this same thing but with the left turn lane. With traffic at the stoplight, she will jump into the left turn lane. Ride it as far as possible and pretend she is a lost little girl and have someone let her in near the front of the line. The best thing is, even when she is doing this stoplight after stoplight, she is still within eye sight.

I've learned to just not get worked up over what other people do on the road. Stress I don't need and it just doesn't affect my life enough to care about. There are too many !@$*( out there to give a sh!t about any of them.

I do take the service road for a few exits (4 or 5) then come back in on the Long Island Distressway. If you think about it, essentially it's doing the same thing to "impede" you isn't it? You're just more pissed that you can see THEM in the act.

Just like that guy who flipped on his cellphone for a second at the theatre... I bet a lot of you just wanna wring his neck.

Guys, take a break and relax once in a while.

lol

The exact same thing happens except in city/slow streets with one lane blocked to construction or a parked car. It's very annoying seeing people turn right when the bug orange arrow sign is clearly visibly that the lane ends.
