Deodorant is good for preventing smell when you're sweating. If you're stinknig jsut walking around it's not due to lack of deodorant, but lack of bathing. I could walk around all day with out deodorant and no one would smell me, unless I started working out or something.

Once you sweat, you'll stink. Most people will sweat under their arms with hardly any physical activity.

Maybe fat, out-of-shape people. None of the healthy people I know would get sweaty walking across an air conditioned computer lab and worknig in Dreamweaver.

Actually, when I got into shape I started sweating MORE than I did when I was out of shape.

But that's neither here nor there. The fact is, some people sweat more than others. Some will remain moist in their pits even when doing very little.
There's truth to this. Your body gets more efficient at sweating over time if you're really into aerobic exercise. You do anything moderately strenuous, and your body assumes it's in for a three-hour haul and cranks up the sweat pumps.

I get sweaty eating dinner if the house isn't freezing.

You too? LOL, my GF looks at me like I'm a loony when I sweat while eating something warm on a warm day.

Not only will I sweat with even the most moderate exercise now, when I do work out, I look like I'm taking a shower... I'm so soaked and dripping.

BTW, one way to keep your sweat less stinky is to stay away from onions and garlic (even garlic pills can make your sweat stinky). Peppers do it too.

Hmm I always thought there was some correlation b/t fitness and sweating. I'm in the best shape of my life but I sweat like crazy. It's embarressing - I get so hot after my showers (I've literally tried taking the last 5 minutes of the shower in all cold water) that I have to cool off in front of a fan for about 5-10 minutes to avoid sweating. Not just in the summer either  During the winter sometimes I just go outside without a shirt on for 5 minutes :( It's also rather embarressing on leg day - my shirt gets soaked to the bone.
It's all part of the process of getting fit. Your body learns to turn on the jets sooner so you stay cooler since it assumes you're going to wail on it. :p

I keep sweating even after a shower when I commute by bike to work, so I go stand in the 4°C walk-in cooler down the hall from my lab for a few minutes. That usually does the trick.

For whatever reason, I don't really stink no matter how sweaty I get (and I eat a lot of onions/garlic). Just one of those things, I guess.

Thank the pagan lords I'm the same way. When I used to run cross country I'd be a sweat drenched beast and the girls cross country team would actually comment on how good I smelled. They'd ask me what cologne I used. My response was usually..."Uhhhh, Right Guard sport scent I think".

:)

BTW - anybody else notice that they grow immune to certain antipersperants after a while and have to switch up brands? About ever six months I have to pick up a different brand to still have some effectiveness.

I am SO glad I'm not the only one that has to cool down after a shower. I stand in front of a fan when I get out. Another moment that makes my GF look at me like I'm a nutball.

Nope, I've never had that problem. Arrid XX solid has always worked great for me.

Mind you to assist him I have to sit right beside him. 1st of all this guy bit off more than he could chew he has no clue of what hes doing and, was trying to get me to do it which I flat out tell him I wont and it not my job to do so After about an hour of telling him he does not have the correct info to access the site to update it he leaves. 3 hours later I still cant get the taste of that odor out of my mouth, it was that strong. Mind you after he left my boss walked out of his office which was around the corner asking what the hell that smell was.

End of my rant.

Does anybody else here have to deal with this type of situation as it happens quite often here.

Sounds like Berkeley.

Uhg. The last flight I had from Chicago to Phoenix I had to sit behind an Indian family. Mother of God. It was HORRIBLE. You know during boarding when they don't have the AC turned on and there's zero airflow going on? Yeh. It was bad. Real bad. There was like this festering cloud of stink lingering around where they were sitting. I was directly behind them and it was so bad I got a head ache from it and it made me gag a few times.

Fsck culture. YOU SMELL!

Not as bad as the time I went to my assigned seat on a 757 and the seat next to it had a plastic covering with a yellow puddle right in the middle. Needless to say, I sat elsewhere, rules and regulations be damned.

Be careful saying "I don't really stink" Your brain may have blocked out the odor to the point where you don't even smell it...but others do. Even your girlfriend may not notice it either.

We had a guy in Coast Guard training that didn't take a shower the whole damn time he was there. He finally had to be ordered to go take one my his Company Commander. He showed up after his shower with his clothes dripping wet. He didn't bother taking his uniform off when he showered. >_<

Nope. I just don't really stink. Dunno why, but it's true.

Of course, I still wear deodorant, but mostly to keep from soaking my pits every day.

note: THis post is not intended to be racist...if you feel it is, STFU. I don't care what your ethnicity is...personal hygeine is a matter of PUBLIC SAFETY. I certainly hope none of these guys ever come into my office asking for a job, i'd turn them down in an instant, no matter what their qualifications are.. GET A HINT!!!!!!!

OMFG i shouldn'tve laughed at this darn thread....yesterday i was on a return flight from boston....well whatta ya know, a family of 15 pakistani's walk up...and you can smell them coming....randomly, they decide to sit down on the floor, in the middle of the walkway...WTF!? so anyways, they gradually fill in the seats...and in the terminal sit around me...here i am, thinking GD AT i bet all these people are going to be sitting next to me....so needless to say, my flight was delayed, but they let us board anyways....so we sit on the plane at the gate for 2 hours...and the fscker has the nerve to RAISE HIS ARMS IN THE AIR?!?! WTF. every time he does this, it releases a horrid smell....wtf is he on a roller coaster or something, i had taken the soap/shampoo from my hotel(who doesnt) and i seriously thought about taking them out of my bag and handing them out to each of them....GD why do they do this? I have other beloved patriot friends who are very clean, sh!t some of them obsess over making sure they smell very clean, why is it some of them don't seem to notice they smell like festering SH!T?! i still have that damned odor in my nose and i showered 2 times since last night when i got home....oh...then the guy next to me decides he has an itch.....so he starts rubbing his armpit and getting all in his shirt...then proceeds to wipe down his face with his smelly old hand.....i was about to puke...the only thing keeping me sane was my sweedish fish...which i'd bite a small piece off, and practically stick the other end up my nose.

*puke*

I think in this day and age, is more rude not to say anything and let the bum continue to offend people. Be a nice person and politely tell that guy, "I don't mean to be rude or anything but there is a bad case of B.O. emminating from you."

If it's against some of the middle easterner's religion to not shower, when their in the US, should we have to endure their foul smell when most of the people here don't follow their non-bathing religion?
One thing I don't understand is they don't bath, but all the ones I work with go into the bathroom and with their hands 'wash' their face with water at the sink several times a day. What's that all about? There's at least one that stands at the mirror (praying?) and litterally runs out when anyone else goes in.

Tell me about. I had to live with one during one summer. They sell that smell as a cologne scent.
