People use the term pedophile too loosely

I was commenting on how a girl in a picture was "hot" and my friends called me a pedophile because she was only 16 (I am 20) even though she looked like she could've been in college.

Pedophilia, as defined by the medical/psychology community is someone who is primarily attracted to prepubescent youths. Some people think a person is a pedophile if he/she thinks anyone under the age of 18 is attractive.

If I girl is physically mature, though under 18, I don't see why it's so wrong to think that she's attractive. I remember reading somewhere that most girls reach their peak at around 15-16. That is, they stop growing at that point and start aging. Plus girls nowadays are looking much older for their ages than they used to as a result of modern society (better food, health, makeup, etc.)

Please note that I do not think underage pornography or any sort of physical relations with underage girls is appropriate as they are not mentally or emotionally mature enough to handle it or make wise decisions about it.

I tend to agree with you though. There's a definite difference between being a pedo, and thinking a 16yo girl is pretty.

Most people have a very bad grasp on language in general, and do not bother to learn definitions for the words they use, and then expect everyone to know what they are talking about. The 'taboo' subjects and words are a prime example of this, 😀
