People that drive at dusk while it's raining without their headlights on piss me off

Seriously. Is it that hard? Are you that dumb to not realize it's dark and foggy and other people can barely see you?

And plus, I've seen new Nissans and even a new 2010 Prius drive past me like this with no lights on while it's raining or dark. Do these cars not have automatic headlights? I fail to understand how my $13k base Cobalt has that feature standard, yet a $25k Altima or Prius wouldn't.

My car has three options: off, auto, and on. The automatic lights don't come on until its really dark. I tried using auto, but always ended up turning them on manually because the lights weren't on during near dark.

Some people don't know how their light settings work. Most cars have day-time running lights, and some people assume that because light's coming out the front, all their visiblility lights (front-side, back) are on.

I hate people with LED/white/blue lights and who don't know how to work their highbeams. It's people behind me that piss me off though, anyone oncoming will pass, they stick around.

Hmm, interesting. Mine seem to come on at about the right time. I haven't touched the switch since I bought the car. I haven't tried the system in any other cars though. Thing is, these cars I saw had no lights at all, not even DRLs. It was definitely a 2009/10 Altima and a 2010 Prius.

Wow did not realized they still made cars with non auto headlines. My 98 lasabre has automatic, even. There's a photo sensor somewhere (no idea where tbh) and never had issues.

I do hate those blue LED lights though. It's a very piercing blinding beam that blinds you. Those should be illegal.

In MD if your wipers are on your headlights have to be on. Not everyone does that though :^/

I am confused by the number of cars that do not have daytime running lights, certainly not ones that are on by default. My friend got an '08 Honda Fit with the Sport Package (so basically all the bells and whistles... for a Fit) and it does not have its headlights on during the day. Maybe it has automatic ones that are just off during the day?

But yes, OP, people that drive in the rain or at dusk, and especially both, sans headlights piss me off to.

You know what bugs me too? People that flip their wipers to full out f-ing lightspeed when 2 drops of water fall from the sky. I mean... the wipers have like 5 speed settings... plus the quick drizzle wipe setting.

If they're too stupid to figure that out, they shouldn't be driving.

Yes, if a 98 Buick has it, and an 07 Cobalt has it standard, why are there still $20k+ cars sold without it? It's a freaking light sensor, it's probably as basic or even more so than power locks/windows which is standard on just about everything.

Some people disable their daytime running lights. Don't ask me why. ALL THE COOL KIDS DO IT!

My '97 Dakota Sport has manual lights, manual locks, manual windows, though it does have an automatic transmission.
Take that high society assholes. :p

it does have fog lights (I do need to replace the one, it's dead), and manual running/warning lights. Running lights to me are unnecessary unless weather is bad, and if that's the case, full lights get turned on. I don't understand the need for running lights. My truck is white though so in daytime it stands out enough on its own.
I think i've used the warning lights (is that what they are called? I dunno, the yellowish/amberish/orange-ish lights) I think once or twice, I just don't understand the need for them.
I do use them in neighborhoods though when pulling out of a driveway, and then once I am correctly facing the street I turn on the headlights, that way I don't send super bright lights into someone's home. Especially if I'm just using someone's driveway to turn around. :p

People who install those blue headlights themselves need to DIAF. At least get a professional to do it who will get them aligned properly so you don't blind everyone else on the road with your low beams.

Because automatic headlights are a worthless junk technology that don't come on when they need to come on (fog, overcast day, etc) and they lull idiot drivers into apathy because morons will set the lights to "auto" and then never think about whether they need to have the lights on or not; even when the lights fail to come on at the proper time.

I've been renting Toyota Camrys for the last few months when I'm out on business. They have automatic headlights which never come on at the right times. I continuously have to turn the headlights on manually when it's grey or dusk or rainy or foggy because the sensor still thinks there's enough light to leave everything off.

The same thing happens with the GM cars I've rented. Even the newest "automatic" systems aren't smart enough to identify every instance when the headlights need to be on.

What the hell. All the recent cars I've driven had daytime lights - but that never made a difference for me. When I need my lights, I turn them ON. What's so difficult about that? Yikes.

The Smartbeam auto headlights on my 08 Jeep GC are nearly perfect. Really could not ask for better. As are the auto windshield wipers.

Always seem to do just what I would do.

I rarely have to intervene, even for fog.

I though they just had a light sensor, but it turns out there is actually a digital camera and a computer on the job as well...

The digital camera system even recognizes vehicle tail lights.

It also fades the headlamp brightness up to high beam so it does not blind drivers.

People are stupid. People can't drive. People don't have fucking common courtesy let alone common sense to realize they are creating a hazard for others. Pretty much sums up any driving thread.

I'm sorry your experiences have been poor. My only direct experience is with my 07 Cobalt like I said, and as LTC8K6 mentioned with his Jeep they are just about perfect. I'm not in an apathetic state and I check my internal lights frequently to see if the headlights are on or not. Just about any time it's dark enough for me to want them, they're on.

Some people use the argument that they're unnecessary, because it's not difficult to turn on your own lights. That's a pathetic excuse for an argument, because look at all the other tech we have in just about everything that isn't "necessary" either. Do we need a start/stop engine button, or climate control? No, but it's there. I honestly feel auto headlights should be more standard, and if every system isn't as good as what I've experienced in my car, that's a shame.
