The worst is when the one lane road (per direction) opens up to two lanes for passing for maybe 1/2 mile or so, and every single person somehow believes that because of this additional lane, they must go faster through the passing zone. The speed limit is 55mph and so I'll get stuck behind people barely doing that when I want to go 60-62mph, and I can't pass because of oncoming cars or turns, so the passing lane opens up for a little bit only to have the person who was going 55mph automatically speed up to 65mph. So for me to pass them, I'd be going way over, risking a ticket. So I stay behind them, and as soon as the passing lane ends, they slow right back down.
What in the hell?!
This happens absolutely everytime I drive back and forth to school. It is like these people MUST speed up through the passing lane, even if they are not passing anyone. It pisses me off a lot. That is pretty much the reason that I got my only speeding ticket.
And stupid Michigan with its 55mph roads all over... that's the fastest there is within hours of me (no freeways). It can be pretty empty most of the time and going 70mph doesn't seem at all that unsafe, so it'd really be nice to have a higher speed limit so better time could be made driving.
