i love aaa. last winter my car's computer was givin' me shiet. the mechanic was having trouble pinpointing the problem. I got AAA and they towed me 3 times for pretty much nill. The trucks aren't consistentally fast or slow, which kinda sucks as you never know when they'll come, but they always show up.

it's a sweet deal if you buy a used car-

I enrolled with Costco now regretting, to get service take forever and they deal with shady towing places. AAA costs more but gives you more benefits. thanks to AAA tolls will be rolled back in NYC, they spent money on legal fees took MTA to state supreme court

Maybe you and spunky should read the fine print before enrolling w/ an auto service Wduaqnug

When I first enrolled......AAA had a policy that after 25 consecutive years of paid membership.....you have free membership for life thereafter.

Not sure if they still offer that to newer members.

I've been a member for 19 consecutive years now.....6 more to go....and I'll be set for life. :)

That alone is well worth it, forget the other services they provide.

Free towing if you only need to be towed about 4 miles or so.

I dropped AAA and went with roadside assistance from Cingular ($3/mo so it's cheaper)

As for discounts from AAA, well, never really used those much but for discounts on hotels, just search hot deal forums and use priceline or something. I've been able to better AAA rates on every trip.

I have AAA Gold or whatever, free towing no matter how far, and it saved my hide when my car broke down on the interstate 100 miles from home. It costs a nice amount, but since my transmission locked up and I had to have the car towed not only TO the garage, but then towed into the garage and back out of it when they looked at it (and will need to have it towed into the garage when they go to fix it) I think it's well worth it.

I've been able to use them for getting cars unlocked. I've had mine done once, and three friends in the last 2 weeks. The biggest advantage for me is that I get 15% off of everything at NAPA. This pays off, seeing as I own a Ford. :D

And costs, what? An extra $25?

Most cell services offer this now... I've got it through Sprint. True $5 a month is more than $45 a year, but I don't have to cough the dough up all at once. Plus rolling it into my cell bill makes it disappear. A new bill from AAA would seem like I'm spending more (even though I'm not).

If I have to tow my car more than 10 miles I'm in more serious trouble than the cost of the tow! :D

I've never had to go over 5-6 miles on a tow.

Ever go on a road trip? I've been to places where the closest gas station was over an hour away

Ayup...but have never broken down on a road trip...ever. Only times I've needed a tow have been in town and have been due to flat tires. The $50/call coverage by Cingular works for me!

Sure, I'm taking a risk that if I break down 20 miles from the nearest exit I'll have to deal with a big headache but I'm gambling that it won't happen.

I also use AAA for the pricing discounts on tickets n stuff. the one time I've needed them for towing wasn't bad, not to mention it's not really their fault if it takes forever it's usually your local towing company.
