People parking in your assigned space at your apartment complex...

Is there a place I can download/print a sign that warns people that their vehicle will be towed at the owners expense for parking in somebody elses assigned spot (illegal parking)? There is ALWAYS a car parked in my Mom's assigned parking space at her complex. She's complained to the management of her building to no avail. Granted, she doesn't drive, but that doesn't give someone else the right to take her spot, that she pays for, without her permission. There are two cars that seem to be the violators, and I have taken their plates down, but I would also like to leave a sign on their windshield the next time I am over there. Unfortunately, there isn't someone from management or maitanence on site 24 hours a day, so it's hard to make them actually see the vehicle parked in her space. The thing that really irks me is that there is a sign posted on the actual building itself RIGHT ABOVE HER PARKING SPACE stating that anyone parking in someone elses space will be towed, but yet they pay no attention to it. I don't want to actually have the offending vehicles towed for fear that they may take their anger out on my Mom, who lives alone, so I'm hoping that once they see the warning on their windshield, they will stop parking there.

Do it.

If they park there again, call a tow truck. Also, make sure you take down the details of the person who is always parking in her spot in case of retribution.

Call the towtruck if you have a need to park there.

If she doesn't drive, and you don't plan on parking there, don't be a dick about it.

wedge 16p nails under the tires... when they back up a nice slow leak on all 4 tires. but of course they might know who did it. so do it at your own risk.

My mom would just leave them a note on their car, and park somewhere else...

It's not that I'm being a dick about it, but everytime she has someone come to visit, there is always a car in her spot that shouldn't be there. Visitor parking is the next row of spaces, it won't kill whoever is in her spot to park there. Plus, the person parking in her spot doesn't know that my Mother doesn't drive, so THEY are the ones being the inconsiderate pricks by parking there, not me by complaining about it.

I had these problems with some guys in my complex, one time they were parked there and some car was in front of the driveway as well. When I got out and had to walk half a block I was so pissed they were right next to their cars I told them next time they park here I will call the tow truck (the complex managers sent a memo to call a certain company and respect other peoples spaces). They haven't parked there since.

You might wanna put like a cone or something else there hard to move because its a pain in the butt to get out and move something then park. They'll tire of it.

Edit: I just read vipers post. I don't think he would like it for him to pay for something and someone else use it for free. He is PAYING for the space, it doesn't matter if he doesn't use it or not it's his to do what he wants with it.

Some apt's have no clear markings of what spots are reserved or visitor. But, since you state it's the same 2 cars over and over, they probably live there and assume no one uses that spot OR are just a-holes. If you've notified them, I'd go ahead and call to tow it (call the apt's towing company) the next time you need to park there and it's occupied.

I totally understand your point of view, but I'd just leave a note. If the people parking in that spot are other tenants or friends of tenants I can imagine the conversation.

Tenant: "Dude just park in the 3c (or whatever) spot. Nobody ever parks there and then we'll have 30 less feet to haul the groceries"
Friend: "Okay I'll do that. You sure?"
Tenant: "like I said, I don't think I've ever seen a regular car there. I don't think that tenant owns one so it shouldn't be a big deal."

I'm sure they're not intentionally being inconsiderate, it's just they figure it shouldn't bother anyone if it basically doesn't get used anyway. But then maybe I'm just being too naive and giving them too much credit.

Before they repaved the driveway and all the lines, some of the markings were a bit faded, but legible from your vehice to see what had an apartment number and what was visitor parking. Now, it's 100% clear, big yellow numbers/letters on fresh pavement, so they can't use the excuse that they didn't know it was for a certain apartment.

Wow, people in my complex are really mean, just plain $ss's if you park in their space. One old lady went door to door looking for the person who was in her space! She asked me if I had Ne plates (which I do, I live in Mo) I said yes. She starts yellin about how I'm in her space yadday yadda...We go out there and lo and behold. I'm in MY space, SHE was so mad she forgot which space was hers on some crazy crap. I was so mad.
Then, another time I parked in someones space and they left me a b mean old note about being towed and dont let it happen again etc etc. I was like WTF?! I screwed up, but you dont have to be an 4ss about it! A nice little "This is my space, check at the office for yours" wouldnt been ok.....

I do want to leave a note, just not a handwritten one ;) I was hoping someone knew of a website out there that had a prepared note already, with pretty little pictures of a tow truck hauling a car away, so all I'd have to do is print it and stick in under his wiper, almost so they would think that management left it on their car, and not me or my Mom.

what's wrong with a handwritten note...it's basic and to the point. you don't need to go make a sign or anything.

Ooh good call.

Here I found this after searching google images.

Just ad that pick into word or poweroint and ad, "Tenants are to park only in assigned spots and visitors in designated areas. Failure to do so will result in fines and towing at owner's expense. Thank You, Management."

Cut out letters from a magazine and glue them to a sheet of paper. Start out with the phrase "If you ever want to see your car again..."

If that doesn't work, find out which apartment they're going to and leave another one on their door. ;)

I happen to live in an apartment, my roommate & I have one space. I don't have a car, but he does. Both of us are pretty laid back about it, if I have someone over & they use the spot he doesn't care. And even if someone else parked there it wouldn't really bother either of us. We'd probably leave a note & let them know that yes, we do use the spot and to please not park there. But unless it became a regular occurence, it isn't worth getting them towed over.

Once I had a friend over that parked in a spot that wasn't ours. She intended to go right back out & move her car, but around 45 minutes later we realized she still hadn't moved it. She went out, & found a tow truck hooking up her car. Not only had the bitch who owned the spot called the tow truck, she tried to convince the driver to take the car anyway - With my friend right there ready to move the car. To top it all off? She didn't even park in the spot! She was on foot, and hours later there was STILL no car in the spot.

There are much larger things to get upset about than parking spaces, some people are just anal retentive assholes.

Ok I reread my post I did not mean for you to call the tow truck the first time you see a strange car parked there. I don't mind if someone is taking down their groceries or something, but the original poster said that there is constantly a car parked in his space. Which means that a. either the people taking the space are just jerks or b. they don't know that they shouldn't be parking there. Good advice leaving a note, or what you could do is ask the management just mail a reminder to everyone in the complex that there are assigned spaces, and it's inconsiderate to other people to constantly use the space they paid for which seems to work even better since there is no confrontation.

I had this problem before. I would always leave a note. Plus, I kept reporting it and reporting it to the apartment office. Even if it was after hours and all I got was the answering machine. Everytime I called the apartment office, I logged down the details. In many cases, I knew exactly who was parking in my spot. I've watched them park then walk into their apartment unit. Eventually, the apartment management sent notices to the offenders. Their lease was not renewed.

Sometimes, I would double park and block them in. Then I would go into my apartment and go about my usual evening. Once in a while, I'd peek out the window. When I see the offender standing there looking around, I'd come out and ask if he/she is done with my parking spot. Sometimes I'd wait a bit. It's funny how they act all mad and stuff because I inconvenienced them. Sometimes they are overly apologetic.

I wouldn't recommend this if you live in a getto apartment complex. I'm in one of the more expensive ones in this area so the tennants and the guests are at least halfway decent and would not resort to phyiscal violence over a parking spot. Either way, they become clearly aware not to park there again.

By the way, my mail box key is really pointed on the end and scratches the heck out of anything.

If there is enough room, I would park behind the offending car thereby preventing them from being able to get out. Also leave a note on the car's windshield saying to call you if they want you to move your vehicle.

That way, you will get to talk to the person who took your mom's spot and you can warn them in person that you will tow next time.

Call me a jerk, but someone parked in my spot (and it's happened only once), I have them towed immediately. This was in my old apartment. My new apartment doesn't have nearby covered parking.

I look at it this way: I don't let just anyone use my apartment when I'm not there. If I came home and found some strange person sitting in my apartment, I'd call the cops and have them arrested. Same thing goes for my parking spot. I pay for it, it's mine. Stay the heck out of it!

If someone is in my parking spot, then I usually get them towed (Only once I didn't get them towed because it was a moving truck and I found out who they were). I have to pay $100 a month for the parking spot, why should I let other people use it for free while I need to park there?

If you live in a major city then you should know the rules about parking spots...

Here's what I would do:

print out a piece of paper with the words "You are illegally parked" in large letters. I prefer landscape ;) then go and super glue it to their driver side window. Its not damaging, but its such a bitch to get off, that you will get your point across.

-alex

p.s. This happened once to me. once. get the idea?

Put homosexual reading material on their windshield.

OR

Put up flier around the apartment complex saying "Looking for a good time? I'm looking for hookers and am willing to pay, please leave notice of availability on my car License plate XXX-XXX."
