Sorry, but I cannot agree that every one should be allowed to post whatever they like.
The parody threads are way out of hand, and the number of unsuitable links are getting more tasteless. Sure it is easy to just not click on a thread of link, but once it gets to a point where the majority of threads are stupid and borderline offensive, then it should not be ok. It is not only annoying and a waste of bandwidth, but it is against the rules.
If the rules say no spam, or offensive links, then that should be the way it is. And which threads stay, and which are locked should not just be down to which mod in on duty and more lenient, and who is doing the original posting. It should not be a point of not clicking a thread that should not be there to begin with.
If people don't have the maturity and common sense not to start these silly threads, then it is the mods job to make sure the rules are followed and the thread be locked. I understand there are not enough mods to be everywhere at once, and they are volunteers doing the best they can, but consistency would help a lot.
And I am not saying that people should be banned, or even get a vacation... but that does not mean that it should be ok to make ATOT a free-for-all, especially since some of the instigators are long time members and should know better. This is not whinning, it is just wanting to enforce the rules.
