Not sure if it is still around and if not, when it stopped but man this was one of the highlights of the year when I was a kid. around this time the WB would be out and every page of the toys section was thoroughly scrutinized

I remember always anticipating the best-buy weekly advertisement in the sunday newspaper. Just to see all the new electronics/tv's/cd's/movies etc that are coming out.... now look at how fast best-buy's are going out of business and the company is losing tons of money :(

I remember catalogs. They became a non-concern when I joined the Navy.
Then when I was able to shop again, online was the best way.

They still have it but it's all digital now. I think they issued the final paper copy last year. Used to love looking through it. Even as an adult I'd peruse the toy section only to say that our toys were better.

Sears still puts out the wishbook, if you go to a store they will probably have mounds of them.

My Mom and Dad would have us take the Wish Book, along with the JC Penney Christmas catalog, and go through them. We had a pen or marker, and would write our initial next to whatever items we might want for Christmas. Then they would go through, knowing how much they wanted to spend per kid, and select what they'd purchase.

IMHO, made it much easier for all parties involved, since they didn't have to memorize what we wanted, and we always ended up getting something (not everything!) that we wanted.

I was gonna say that I used to love getting that when I was younger, and I'm in my early 20s, then I realized I'm not early 20s anymore... :(

Back in the 60s, 70s and 80s the Wishbook was like the friggin Internet ... before the Internet!

Fond times with the Wish Book as a kid circling nearly everything on the toy section. We used to fight over who got to look at it first.

And for those even older, back when catalogs were printed on the same type of paper as newspapers and tabloid, the Sears Wish Book (and others like Montgomery Ward) was also called toilet paper.

And you had to use both sides of the paper before you moved onto the next page.

Pffft! Rich kids. In my day we used corn cobs and that's the way we liked it!

there was a thread here about a year ago with a link to a website that had tons of them scanned from every year from the 50's onward, i think. when you see them again, it's amazing how many specific pictures of toys you remember.

but it is not christmas yet, nowhere near, and i refuse to act like it is by even discussing this. maybe i'll come back to this thread after thanksgiving.

In the third grade, I looked forward to those pamphlets from Scholastic, with the books and video games.

Good memories :)

29 years old. I'm so nostalgic and sad right now that these worthless turd kids just don't get the awesomeness of growing up in the 80s... now, they get everything handed to them... everything is too digital and disconnected from human interaction... it's just sad.
