One example of this is when I hear all these people say "Buy DX10 card, wait wait! you future proof your self! You want to future proof your self so that you can play all those great DX10 games!!!"

Then 2 years later that same dumbass upgrades to a whole new system totally negating the purpose of the 'future proofing' in the first place. Future proofing works for ME because I don't upgrade my system until I can't play a game I want to AT ALL. My current rig was built in '03 and I don't have plans to upgrade until '09 or when I can't play new games on it anymore.

Another example of this hypocrisy is when some guy knocks up his GF and they decide to get married, the guy has like a camaro or some other two seater that he sells because "hes a daddy". So he or the GF or what ever sell the car and buy an 8 seater minivan/SUV, they buy it "for the future" when the baby get's older, I want to start a family. Right... because I'm sure you're going to take your 18month old child and his friends back from soccer practice So in the usual fashion the idiots sell the minivan/SUV and buy another one 3 years later.. Great use of the vehicle you dumbasses.

So you spent 32K on a minivan/SUV despite the fact you have one child who has barely graced the age of 2 and YOU DON'T CAR ****** POOL... Look if you're going to buy a minivan or SUV at least put logic into your purchasing decision, just because you have a child on the way doesn't mean you need to buy everything ****** related to children on the face of the earth...

Sigh I'm sure some will just come in here and post that I'm an idiot because I didn't spend $5 so that I can have a ****** avatar, that I'm an '06 or that I 'simply don't understand' because I'm not a gullible idiot who got sucked into the scam that parenthood is.

It's obvious you don't have kids and don't know what the fvck you're talking about.

Try getting a car seat or child out of camaro everyday. Try carrying around a stroller, diaper bag and various other items you need for a child. You'll outgrow that crapmaro in 5 minutes. I'm not saying that mini-vans are the answer (cause I hate them), but you're a fool with an ignorant rant.

no such thing as future proofing. Whoever uses "future proofing" in the same sentence as "video card" "cpu" or "pc" is a tool.

EDIT: Buying a car that is way over what you need isn't toolishness, it's stupidity.

What is it called when you buy something so that you won't have to/need to upgrade for a considerable amount of time?

I must agree that attempting to "future proof" a computer build is usually a terrible idea.

I would hope so, we don't need any more 12 year olds becoming parents.
