People are happiest when they are buying stuff they want from big stores with deep discounts.


A guy/woman getting a good deal on a product in a supermarket is atleast as much happy as a person meeting God. But just bear in mind that the supermarket is just next door, but stuckup God is in heaven.

Is Walmart the new heaven? Is heaven a free supermarket and nothing more?

Imagine if you died and went to heaven and get stuff for free, it would not be any better than getting an unlimited gift voucher on Earth. :wub:

Heaven is overrated anyway.
 
im usually happiest when i'm on vacation in some tropical location in the water snorkeling.

i personally would much rather buy "experiences/memories/activities" than buy physical "stuff". sure i love having a lot of neat stuff that i can use over and over at my house, like a nice car or home theater, but i'd take going on a vacation and being in the water over that stuff any day of the week.

Problem with material things is that you can grow a tolerance to them. You buy a nice new car, you get used to it, the only way to recapture that awesome feeling is to buy another one. Commence shopping addiction and over consumption.

Was reading a study where they stated people who bought experiences (vacations, outings, parties with friends) were happier in the long run than people who spent the same amount of money on tangible things.

I wonder if that indicates that experiences make you happier, or if the kind of person who values experiences is naturally happier. I always feel awkward and miserable in social situations. I can enjoy them sometimes, but even at best it's never as good as fiddling with some new toy, playing a new game, or reading a good book. That's just who I am. If there's some way for me to be happier than I am, it's not through vacations, parties, or outings in any case. I enjoy those, but not as much as others I know.
 
I disagree that I'm happiest when buying something I want, but I am happy when I do find a good deal on something I want (this is generally the ONLY time I will buy).

I think I'm happiest when just hanging out with friends and family and having a good time. Doesn't really matter what it is.

You are still buying an item, even if you don't consider it the same as something you bring home. No matter how you look at it, we're all buying "happiness".

I see where the OP is going with this but walmart? Really? Unless they start selling Ferraris or Ducatis at walmart I can think of many many places I'd rather spend money.

I can think of a few instances where I am happy and it doesn't involve buying anything at all. Spending time with my son throwing the ball around, cooking a great meal for my family, giving a gift, riding my motorcycle, walking on the beach... so many great things to experience.
