pretty ridiculous, even though they all have "another reason" aside from just owning one.

good thing i preordered mine. is Sep 21 the arrival date or the day they start shipping to those that preordered?

ever since preorders started I never understood why people do this.

are you too poor to get on a computer to preorder? if it's important enough for you to camp out, wouldn't you be able to find a friend to preorder for you if you couldn't jump on it the minute preorders opened?

Edit: ok wow they sold out in 1 hour, so i suppose it's not that easy for everyone... but the 4s preorder went for a while I remember

yes the 4s took 22 hours to sell out preorders. the 5 did it in an hour.

edit: the website for the preorder was down for me the entire time for the 5. i had to do it via the mobile app on my phone, which went through flawlessly w/o lag in 3 min

Dude, you totally missed the point. If you pre-order, then all you're getting is a product. You miss out on all the following:

- Making friends by bonding over sleeping on the street.
- Whoring yourself to the media who needs a 2 minute spot to fill their newscast.
- Telling people that you are camping.
- Spamming your twitter, Facebook, and instagram with "omfg, so cold, but iP5 here I cum!" posts.
- Hazing yourself and passing the test to become a true Apple fanboi.

You totally missed it man.

I preordered the 4s and the site was hammered. I stayed up writing my thesis that I day I remember and tried again at like 4am and it was fine.

But I know for a fact I tried from 12am-1am for the 4s and it was practically impossible. I had friends who woke up the next morning and did it...

But dang, 1 hour is insane. Kinda wonder if this is due to limited quantity or if it's actually THAt popular.

well i surmise that it was THAT popular cuz most of the 4 crowd did not upgrade to the 4s because it was such a marginal upgrade. so now you have a huge group that did not upgrade and were waiting for this model and also a ton of other new isheepies.

im sure the 5 will shatter all previous records.

on a side note, since you preordered before, do you know the answer to my question? if you have sep 21 as the ship date, is it the arrival date or the day they actually begin shipping? thanks. =)
 
I can only imagine the rage that would occur if Samsung or HTC were able to get an injunction against Apple to prevent the import of the iPhone 5.

I got my i4 by mail on the launch day (June 24, 2010).

Anyway, I don't think it's any surprise at all that people are camping out already. They did it for the last few Apple phones.

Do they give them away for free or something for the first few people in line? That's the only reason I could see someone waiting, and even then it would be a waste of my time unless it was worth $1k+.

A lot will wind up on Ebay, CL for sale with a huge markup..
 
Never understood camping out for a phone, I'd rather wait and just order one on a wait list or whatever.
