Why do all numbers in Hollywood movies start with 555?

In the game "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", why don't people use the life lines in a different order, and when they use the "Ask the Audience" lifeline, why don't the people in the seat ever tell the people who don't know the answer to not vote?

That would be all for now, thx. :)

find me a real number that starts with 555. they normally dont call real numbers in movies. Yah for scripts! if they did have real numbers in movies, idiots would try and call them.

They DO ask people who dont knwo to not vote...but that doesnt stop them.

there are no 555 numbers...thats why they use them.

People all use lifelines in different orders.

I would not be surprised if everyone is required to vote as part of being an audience member.

There is no 555 prefix in the US, so that's used so no one's real number will be used on TV or whatever.

Your second question is just dumb and does not deserve an answer.

Thanks.

Hmmm, I have never yet seen an episode of millionaire where the person playing gave specific instructions to the audience lol. As for using a life line in a different order, they always use "Ask the Audience" fist...

555 is reserved for use as examples, in movies, or anything else where a real number is not needed. There have been times when a non-555 number is used in a movie (ie: Bruce Almighty) and people end up harrassed by thousands of curious callers.

1-800-555-1212 is the number for long distance information.

People have used non-555 numbers before. Ever hear the song with Jenny's number, 867-5309? It caused lots and lots of problems. I think I heard lawsuits stemmed from it, but I'm not certain. If you were creating an ad, TV show, movie, song, etc., would you risk the problems and the lawsuits?

People have tried the ask the audience on hard questions. What do you get? A bunch of idiots who don't know the answer either and all results get ~25% (~50% if the take half the answers away lifeline has been used). Thus it was a complete waste of a lifeline since the audience doesn't know! So instead, use it on easy things that the audience does know and save your better lifelines for the future.
