It seems like the ulimate cheapo rig with good storage.
For instance, at mwave, I could get a gigabyte nforce4 SLI board and 805 retail for ~ $240 shipped. This is nice when you consider that 1)6 Sata II ports, 4 of which you can install XP on without hassle 2)166 mhz FSB is a given with the amount of tweaking you can do on an nforce4 board 3)Very nice gigabit lan 4)a 256 meg 6800 PCIe can be had for ~$99, it is hard to find an AGP equivalent to that deal.
This would be my primary file server w/5 SATA HD's, LAN game server, and the computer my GF would play Guild Wars on when she visits me.
For around $400 with a gig of DDR2, I don't think it would be to shabby. Especially when the FX 5900, gig of DRR, 2.6C, and 865PE mobo should bring me almost $300. Any X2 would cost me at least $300, and I would really like to get a PCIe & dual core box. It boils down to this question:
I know that 820's don't work in these boards, do 805's?
Thanks,
Nat
