This is a better question for the Notebook or CPU forum.

Also your post topic has nothing to do with what you are asking.

You do realize that X2 and FX-60 are not notebook cpu's, right?

Currently the Intel Core Duo is probably the best bet for notebook speed and low power consumption. In the next few months we'll be seeing most manufacturers offering the Core Duo across their notebook ranges.

sorry bout placing it on wrong area...

Dell offering a XPS notebook with Pentium M780
Sager, Voodoo & Alienware is offering notebooks with either X2 or FX-60 on their 17"

i was told that Voodoo is a painted and rebranded Sager, Alienware is basically Clevo...
i also hear a lot of horror stories about Alienware too...

still did not make up my mind...

power supply and portability is not so important to me...

What are you going to be doing on the PC? Remember that the 4800X2 offers 92% of the performance of the FX-60 at much less than 92% of the cost.

nothing intensive...

foolishly getting a notebook that will devalue so fast that i will not be able to look at another PC magazine for months... just buying "my preciousssssss"

4800 seems fine, actually...
the bigger question for me is either 4800 or the Pentium M...
Dell XPS is likely, but tempted to go for the AMD systems.
i was told to get a Sager... same system as Alienware & Voodoo but cheaper.

any thoughts?

The pentium M will be less power hungry, but the 4800 more powerful.

It depends on you, if you want more than 2 hours of battery life then your choice is made, if this is just for when you're in the hotel room or near a power socket then you still have to make that hard decision.

I haven't got a clue when it comes to the brands i'm afraid.

Thanks Bobthelost...

and i will always use pc near a power socket...

Voodoo, i know i am going to pay a premium, but you have to admit, it looks nice...

Alienware, like Voodoo, Premium prices... and too many folks either love it or hate it... but i hear about more peoples hating it.

Sager, was told that this was a more economical version of same machines, (actually all made by Clevo, as i am told, in taiwan) but don't know the brand... have to buy it from another vendor like www.powernotebooks.com or pctorque.com...

Dell, i guess i can fall back on Dell... if i am not persuaded on any of the above... that is.

So, the 4800 is still in the running, now what are you planning to do with this? If it's gaming then the deciding factor will be the graphics card options rather than the CPU, a high end Pentium M is more than enough power to avoid being the bottleneck.

Same as before, i currently work in the fashion/garment industry and i notice that my notebook (Dell Inspiron 8600) and my desktop (self built on P4 on Abit IC7G) works fine but when i do more graphics work on photoshop and also work with creating intensive graphics, my computers take a long time and sometimes freezes up.

i know that is not justification enough to get a new notebook. i've also learned to manage my files so the saved files are smaller and more manageable...
but my office is updating our entire workstation setup and i have an opportunity to upgrade my notebook, hence more budget here and there...
(of which i will need the forums help in building workstations...)

i do a lot of traveling and i am looking for a strong machine that i can work on while overseas...

playing games on that fast, big computer is great too!!!

as for any other reason for looking at Voodoo pc and Alienware, can't say at the moment.
