I am looking at buying a new laptop and could do with some advice.

Am looking at two similar systems with the following different specs:
Machine 1
Pentium M 760 2.0Ghz
1024MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 128Mb

Machine 2
Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83Ghz
1024MB RAM
Intel Media Accelerator 950 Graphics with up to 256MB shared RAM

Everything else on the two machines is very similar as is the price.

I intend using this for general everyday use, gaming probable 3D shooters and CAD. Any recommendations? I'd prefer the Duo processor but am sceptical about the integrated graphics.

So, on to the big question. If I was to buy the Pentium M laptop, would it be possible to upgrade the processor at a later date to a Duo?
Upgrading the graphics card does not seem to be an option.

Cheers!

Well the core duo will be better for CAD. Neither the X300 or integrated graphics are good for gaming. The pentium-m and core duo use different chipsets, so you wouldn't be able to upgrade the pentium-m to a core duo later.

Check my old thread out, it might help

Ohh and in the old laptop i had it used the x300 graphics chip, and it sucked HARD.

I'm now using the new Core Duo with a 7800 Go. With some 17inch wide screen goodness. Trust me it is a brilliant gaming machine, laptop, whatever :D

From all that I've read: No.

One thing that you can do, if its cheaper now, is go from Core Solo to Core Duo...

If you get a core duo, you will literaly be able to swap it out for a merom 64bit cpu when they come out (when Vista comes out). Yep, completly interchangable, a first for Intel. I think AT said somewhere in their IDF coverage that they saw the Intel guy swap the yonah and merom cpus out of a (one) laptop.
