Pentium M for socket 478?

Recently I have seen reviews of asus's adapter for converting the pentium m 479 to 478 boards. But then I saw this on newegg.

Socket 478(not 479) pentium m chips.
And am wondering, why the adapter? Will these work with any motherboard that has socket 478 without any adapters? They sure aren't cheap, but an interesting idea anyway.

the specs are wrong...it won't work...they're really s479 chips.

ALL pentium m's are 479.... you need the adapter.

Ok, I think they are 478(they come in 478 and 479 apparantly), but a diffferent 478 than desktop cpus.

Even if they are socket 478, you will still need the adaptor. They are not electricly compatible with normal socket 478 desktop boards, the pin layout of the pentium-m is totaly differant than that of the pentium 4, hence the reason for needing the adaptor.

Don't believe The Inquirer for a minute, no matter what you read. They are socket 479.
