im trying to figure some things out
what coolers are you using for the pentium M ?

I purchased a combo i855GMEm-LFS with a pentium M 1.7 banais but no heatsink is there any cooler that you can suggest that would fit

I know a 478 will fit but it wont touch the die/chip because the p-m is a smaller in height

help :)

That's a tough one - I have a CT479 adapter to run a PentiumM on a and it came with it's own cooler.

Let me know if you figure this one out - Im also interested

I've seen people on XtremeSystems with the Zalman 7000 cooler since you can screw those down rather than using clamps or clips. Use care not to crush the core, however.

that sounds like it would work but im just afraid because of the weight factor on the 478 coolers on top of a pentium m die (since theres no shim protecting it or whatever?)

I did a lot of searching and I found this one
COOLER MASTER EEB-N41SS-01 LOW PROFILE MINI-ITX CPU COOLER

which im guessing would work (this is my first build on a matx pentium system so im just guessing please bear with me heh)

so should I go with this one? or try riggin a small 478 cooler on it

Thank you for your replys!!!!

for what it's worth, I used an SP-94 for a long, long time on exposed die (no heatspreader) mobile Celerons and P4s in socket 478 without a hitch. And that was a heavy bastard.

I've also used a stock Intel P4 hsf on many of the 478 boards using mobiles. Some of the mounts are a tad higher than others though so be careful. I just spread a bit grease on the core, lightly mount the hsf, and then dismount it. If contact is made, you're good to go. If not, either mount a copper plate from a craft store or a piece of aluminum flashing between the die and hsf. Not as good, but if it was good enough for a P4, it'll certainly cool an M. In any case actively monitor your temps for a bit to make sure of the contact.

I have an 9500 cooling my Pentium M and I have reached 2.8 GHz with 1.6 Volts and anywhere from 33 to 43 ºC under load depending on ambient... I had a 7000 before with a Max OC of 2.73 GHz with 1.58 Volts.
