I don't usually go around screaming that Canada is awesome. I was just responding to the well thought comment that G14 made: <RRRRRRIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTTT> :) BTW, I'm in 6th grade, and doing pretty good might I add. ;)

On another note, it's a nice system G14 and I hope you enjoy it. Think you could introduce me to that person who's paying for it, I could use one too...;)

WTF? You're getting that system to play UT? Sh*t my P2 350 with a voodoo3 plays UT fine. I'd get a T-bird 1.1 ghz, or dual P3. And where the hell is the cd burner? If you take the money you're spending on that gateway, buy the parts yourself and put it together, you'll save your parents a lot of money.

<< Whoever buys a p4 system is dumb >>

I know you are but what am I? (fkloster attempts to tap his dusty 2nd grade rebutles & comebacks to match people on their own level...)

Dark4ng3l:

That rdram wont be alot faster than your sdram(at least not 8 times like you think). as we all know p4 sucks.[/QUOTE]

Actually RDRAM works much better in a P4 system than in other systems. But yes it still sucks because it costs more and eats power like a big fat lightbulb.

G14:

I'm getting it for Christmas. It's not costing me a dime Mine as well shoot for stars since it's free!

Well, ask your parents to get you a 1 GHz P3 instead. With the money you save you can buy RAM/DVDs/games and buy better components for your system (ie video cards, HDs etc)

Adam:

You do realize that the memory has to run in pairs, hence the name dual channel RDRAM.

Good point, I forgot to mention this. That's even more $$$ that has to be spent when using RDRAM.

Few problems with your P4 system. First, you will have problem upgrading your system later on as whatever socket it is on is gonna be replaced very soon. Second, the amount of memory is too low, I don't know what the rating of those gateway RDRAM are but if it is not 800, it suck even worst than SDRAM in most application. Heck even Intel's benchmark had their 815 chipset with SDRAM beating i820 chipset with RDRAM. Not to mention that you are gonna have less ram than you had before.

Since you don't have to spend a dime and it is obvious that whoever is buying the system for you is loaded, you should get one of those dual system P3 with all scsi stuff, and raid your HDD, at least you can load yourself with memeroy in your system, that will definately give you more performance. But hey, if you wanna brag to people who don't know jack about computer, go ahead with your P4 system.

BTW, do everyone a favor, stay away from Rambus, they are evil!!

G14, what does insulting someone else's specs achieve? All you're doing is making people angry at you because you have rich relatives and you're asking them to buy you a sh!tty system for the price it's costing them, and throwing it in the faces of people who are less fortunate. And as for the Canada rules statement, what's the big deal. It's called nationalism, if I was Canadian I'd say the same. I respect Canada, it may not be America, but it's not some sh!thole like Iraq.

Well, because maybe your american(no offense), you believe in patriotism and see your country and our country differently. I think majority of Canadians are humble and feel that being "nationalistic" infront of other countries is an eyesore. Canada is a great country, but its FAR from perfect, and FAR from ruling any other country.

Yes it may be free to you, but not to the person who is buying it. Ever thought of saving them a about a grand, and take about a 5% performance hit on yourself? Just because someone tells you they'll buy you a new computer--i had to work my ass of for mines =( --u dont have to buy the most expensive sys there is (P4+RDRAM). Just go for a 1.2ghz athlon, its almost as good if not better =) Plus, with that extra grand your saved for that person, if u feel like using it anyways, u could get a flat panel or something nice. Oh, about the ram thing, the sys ur getting is duel channel, so i think you have to install the ram in pairs. that would make sense, but not sure......

G14:If you need fastest computer for UT, P4 is not the right choice. According to Anand'd and Tomshardware, Athlon@1.0Ghz was exactly as fast as P4@1,5Ghz and 1,2Ghz Athlon was slightly faster. But It's your/your family's money and It's not my business to blame you on wasting it. BTW all I can afford for christmas is new video card (will buy G400 probably) cause I have to buy it by my self :( .

Ignore the comments here on how the PIV sucks. It does underperform the 1Ghz processors out there and if you want expandiblility you are out of luck in the future.

Listen to the better options. Personally, hardware is useless without the software. So get a 1Ghz Athlon or dual P3 933 machine LOADED WITH A MUTHA OF GAMES AND SOFTWARE!!!!! And go for SCSI and a nice SCSI cd burner. You not only be able to play UT but also surf the web and burn CDs!

And also get a monster speaker system for Mp3s that with a nice sound card.

It does not matter on the processor but what other components are inside. Processor means jack for anything except makes a 1.5 framerate difference. Why give that up for all other features that makes a computer worthwhile.

I say, getting features is more important than getting a bit more power. But as you wish...

Well said Imaginer.

G14, you could build your own system for half the cost of that damn Gateway and you would certainly enjoy it more. More features, more power, etc.

heh, being Canadian, you'd think I would think the same..

however I DO know that alot of people here aren't humble at all. they are the people who would play the system, just for personal gains.. they are the people who cause the bulk of the problems.

IMHO, you cannot say that one country's people is better then another, because invariably, we have so many idiots on this planet.

Dark4ng3l: Don't worry about anyone saying anything about your system. It may be 'slow' compared to some of whats available right now, but last time i checked there wasnt anything out there that cant be run decently on it. Heck, id say that 90% of what most people do with their puter could be done on 386 w/ 8mb ram and win3.1x or w95. Even though my current system is an Athlon 1GHz, its sometimes fun to put system specs in perspective and see how all that horsepower is actually used most of the time. :)
