Hopefully you weren't planning to use these P-D 805's in a dual CPU board. I think you need Xeons for that.

Pentium D = Sloppy, inferior product.
You're gone. You have been given too many chances, warnings and vacations.

Does the community have it out for Intel or something?

absolutely wrong.... pentium d 8xx = very awesome product. very overclockable and very stable. it gives you better bang/buck than the x2 cpus. the reason i'm selling my pentium d 830 and motherboard is because i just don't have the time or energy to commit to building a new dual-core rig.

On the opteron thread - Oh maybe it's a single core so you would have time and energy?
"yeah, i ordered my cpu last week and i'll be getting it on the 27th. "

This is what I use. PCIe and AGP with support for DDR1 and DDR2
My 805 should be here on tuesday and I will be putting it in that board.
But unless you plan on overclocking, I would NOT get this chip. The FSB is way to weak to really put the dual cores to good use. I am aiming to get 166Mhz FSB which should get me in the 3.3Ghz range I hope.
Also www.Zipzoomfly.com has the 805 for $147 with FREE shipping.
805 with free FedEx 2 Day Delivery 🙂
Cheap board 2
Cheap board 3

does any of these boards have a CPU Vcore option ? i know that reaching ~166-200 FSB will not be a problem with the motherboard but might need Vcore to reach near that limit.

The chipset on the asrock and the asus board supports only PCi-E 16 slot at x4 speed. That is 1/4 the theoratical speed a regular Pci-e 16x slot we see on other boards. Asus board claims to have vcore adjustment according to their website. I was eyeing these boards also, specifically the asus one. May be spend $50 more and get a 945P board. It will pay off in the long run. 945P boards go for $120 bucks now for a good brand. Just my 2 cents.
keep thinking that bud.Originally posted by: eits

everyone's on the amd bandwagon nowadays and don't take the time to even give intel a chance.
personally, i'm not a fanboy of either company... i just like solid performance at an affordable price. that's why i think the pentium d is better than x2 processors, per value. when you do a little research and look at the benchmarks, you'll see just how good the pentium d processors are. then, when you check the pricetags, you'll realize that it's worth it to get the pentium d over the x2. the only reason i could imagine anyone getting an x2 over a pentium d is if they have a bunch of money to throw around to achieve a certain computer pseudo-enthusiast social status.
the difference is like the difference between lexus and mercedes benz. everyone values the mercedes name higher than the lexus name, regardless of the fact that that lexus is on par with benz as far as crash tests, quality control, comfort, noise reduction, etc., except it saves a lot of money to get the lexus over the benz. no one seems to care to do the research anymore... it's all about the name.

the point of going with this PD 805 setup is to have a dual core combo for ~200 and overclock to ~166FSB.
Intel 805 CPU is ~$140
if we spend ~$120 on motherboard, total will be ~260.
if we spend ~60 on the motherboard, total will be ~200. (worth it)
we can get an opteron 165 for ~270 and the asrock motherboad for ~60 (~330 total). so for ~70 extra, the opteron setup is worth it (if we are going for the 945P board).
But if we can get the Intel combo for ~200 and oc to 166fsb, then we are saving ~130 (and this is the purpose)

I get your point, I was just saying it as people will complain later that their 7800gt performs slower than your 9800 or 6800gt. So if you plan on using an agp or a x300 type card then sure these cheap boards will do just fine.
Also the asrock 939Dual-Sata2 board you are talking about is clogged with problems: low vcore, vdimm adjustments, problems with certain agp cards etc. And then one fine day asrock decided to release a bios with no vcore options at all. I had one for less than a month and then got fedup and sold it.

Nothing wrong with this CPU at this price. Clock it to around 3.2-3.4 really easy with it's 20x multi and you're dual core on the really cheap. Powerhouse? no but decent for $135.
see thats what I wanted to confirm. It seems like there are no decent Intel motherboards with PCI-E under ~100
