PENTIUM D 920

looks like a bargain at that price, especially if it has some serious o'cing head room on the 65nm process...

I've decided my next build will be an intel, and this looks like an extremely inexpensive route to dual core, looking at the latest AT benchmarks the 820 at stock speeds even is extremely competetive in 2 of the three gaming benchmarks...http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2668&p=8

It seems like the 65nm transition has cooled off the beast somewhat. So $250 for a 65nm presler, hmm? That could be very interesting if you could hit 4ghz+ with it. You'd have a serious PC there for quite a bargain.

well, the 920 is looking pretty damn awesome if it compares favourably to that...

Just keep in mind that they overclocked a Cedar Mill, which is a different arch than the Presler you are eyeing. Despite that, I still think you have a good shot at getting 4ghz+, which would be awesome assuming you could keep it from throttling. A good HSF should do the trick. You'd have a nice rig.

The guys over at TR were able to hit 4.26GHz on a 955XE using Zalman CNPS9500. I'd expect a non-xe to hit similar speeds unless the motherboard limits it too much (running a 920 at 4.26GHz, for example, would require a FSB of 304MHz, that is 1216QDR). I must say that power consumption looks scary when overclocked, though.

830D is on ebay, if it sells, I'll get a 920D. Already have water cooling, so I could get a decent OC out of it. My 830 doesn't OC at all.

Guys show me some links to 920's or non XEs so I compare performance and see where my make or break point is for ocing....I have near 2.6ghz now (or near FX-60) speeds so I need to see some boost to try it....

I also want to see some temps being reported...too mnay easrly reviews had issues with reporting of temps....

Also sidenote...Does anyone now if they make a KLM like type switch for DVI monitors???

Just picked up my Pentium D 930 (presler core 2 X 3.0 ghz), currently running it at 4.0 ghz at default vcore (1.25v) - so far, so good!

It doesn't....I just needed to know so I could set up a 2nd computer and share my new 27" widescreen monitor...

I didn;t run that exact test, but my 820 @3.5 vs X2@2550 let me deduce it would take ~4.5 to beat the X2@2550 in the tests I ran. The Pressler core is the same, but @65nm, so I didn;t think there was anything to be excited about. I will be glad to run any tests I can with either of those systems against a 9xx@4 ghz.

In terms of performance per mhz it should be identical...except ofcourse it may run faster due to the base smithfield may have been throttling!!! hahahaha...

I think the only redemption the presler has is perhaps its ocing capabilities....The moment you get these things back up to 1.4v plus they should be hot again....


Guy with the 930...how hot are the temps being reported...Also run it with dual instances of something or a program called S&M (it is multi capable).....

My system never sees greater then 50c running dual FH for 3-4 months....
