Pentium D 820 @ 3.4 vs Athlon X2 4800+ @ stock(2.4)

When i benchmarcked these two chips they came close to the same in scores, but in real life the athlon does everything about 5 times faster. What gives!

I am assuming that the huge increase in speed is because of the X2's itegrated memory controller, and the benchmark i was using was testing primerily the cpu only and not much of the ram.

Could be it was throttling ?? Yes, the 4800 whoops it at 3.4

I'm on the Pendium D right now and the benchmarks show no affects of throttling. If i run a short thread it it will complete with out getting the proc too hot, and if i loop that thread and get the temps up to 70 the times stay about the same

Thats always how its been. Intel does well in some synthetic benchmarks, due to the impressive clockspeed, but generally the AMD's are faster in real world.
