Pentium D 805 w/ Scythe Ninja temps a little disapointing

I recently built a system with Pentium D 805 + Scythe Ninja HSF. I am also using it with pqi turbo DDR2 800mhz 1GB memory and ASRock ConroeXFire esata2 mobo. First of all I was only able to OC the chip to 3Ghz because I have to do a voltage mod to up it any more which I will be doing (must solder a 20K ohm resistor so unless you want to do this don't get this board for OCing!). But even at 3Ghz I am a bit dissapointed at my temps! According to speedfan, my idle temps at 3Ghz are around 48C, but when at 100% load they go up to 65C!! That is a huge jump to me. Is this normal for most or did I do something wrong. I expected a HSF w/ 12 heatpipes to do better! Should I OC further?

Hmm, does your case have good cooling? I am getting 55c load at 3.6ghz with my 805 and scythe ninja using the fan that came with it. In a sonata 2 case, with a 120mm intake and 120mm exhaust fan.

I think I posted this in the wrong place. I have a PD 805 sitting in a Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA MB, no vcore adjustment, it's OCed to 3.40 GHz from 2.66 GHz. (stable after 1 hr of Prime95, both cores) I have a Tt Big Typhoon HSF (stock fan for now) lapped to 1500 grit paper. In my case I have 2x 80 mm fan intakes, 1x 80 mm side fan intake, 1x 80 mm "blow" hole exhaust fan and 1x 120 mm exhaust fan in the back of the case. ( plus a dual fan Thermaltake 420w PSU) After running Prime95 on both cores for an hour, ambient temp is 20c (indoor/outdoor thermometer), my temp readings from MBM, Speedfan, Sisoft Sandra are 25c at idle and 36c to 39c at load. In the BIOS my idle was 28c and at load 42c. When I get time I have a hardware temp probe to install that might confirm my temps. (drilling a hole in the HSF ?)

I haven't got a 9xx series yet, I'm waiting to see what the 915 cost after Intel releases their E4300 in 1Q next year. Maybe a E4300. (only 800 fsb, might OC good?)
I've got a question about the PD 805. I have one in a Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA board and I was wondering if it's worth my while to put a Silverstone 120x120x25 Dual Ball Bearing Case Fan on top of my Tt Big Typhoon HSF or even if it will fit? I can't get this chip above 3.4 GHz without a bump in vcore. (no vcore adjustment on this board, everything else is just great)
My ambient temp is 20c, my idle temp is 25c, my load temp is about 39c in MBM, SpeedFan,
and Sisoft Sandra. The cpu temps in my BIOS are 28c idle and 42c load. I took the load temp after running Prime95 stable for 1 hr on both cores. (This was before I found the stress test program, I like their GUI better) Thx for any reply

Edit: You know how us air coolers are always looking for ways to lower our cpu temps. I'm still a little phobic about using water, I'm afraid to add moisture to any electronics. (who knows, maybe I'll try it?) I even have a hardware temp sensor, but I'm a little hesitant about drilling a hole in my HSF.

You temps are pretty good already. Unless you switch to a differant board with vcore options that allows you to OC futher, I wouldn't worry about additional cooling.

Yeah, I wasn't worried too much about my temps (if it got too hot I'd merely downclock) What I was really asking, obviously a little late because I've already ordered and paid for this Silverstone fan, was if anybody knew if it was a good choice in fans or whether it would fit on my Big Typhoon HSF. If it doesn't fit the BT, I can always find a place for it in one of my other functional boxes.

Edit: I plan to switch to a different board (maybe a Intel '65 or '75 chipset) when I find out for sure the capabilities of the new E4300. When I switch boards and I have to bump the vcore. (you never know) I'll probably install one of the hardware temp sensors I have. (depending on what's involved in drilling a hole in the heatsink)
