Building a PC for lil bro, so need to get the best bang for the buck. 805 is only a $110 and that only about $20 more then the AMD, what do you guys think would perform better for multitasking and gaming.

Of course either chip I get I am going to be put a nice HS and overclock it.

I have been reading a lot lately and at the moment am leaning more towards the Intel, though I am an AMD enthusiast.

I dont know much about which motherboard would good for OC the intel, so if anyone here has any input on this subject your help would greatly be appreciated.

thanx

Whatever you do, wait 3 weeks for the price drops.

Both those chips should be a good $20 cheaper 3 weeks from now.

Wait the 3 weeks, then get the X2 3800. It will still be more, if you want a good OC, you will need an exspensive motherboard for the 805, taking away a lot of the money diff. Then the 805 will still run hot, and may even throttle, depending on the HSF and the vcore you use. And you will need a bigger power supply, and better memory.

I was planning on waiting atleast two weeks, damn its hard to wait. I'll wait as long as I can Yesterday I sold my pc, 4200+ X2, 7600gt (SLI)..... so i can upgrade.

So my plan is to build a cheap pc with either 805 or 3000+ Overclock it, play with it and in a month give that to my lil bros and then build my self an AM2 system.

I am on a budget for the pc for my bros, so i gotta stick to the cheaper stuff

So out of the lower end stuff you think 3000+ over is a better deal then the 805?

The X2-3800+ will have its price cut in half by the end of the month. It will be "the cheaper stuff". You could probably get a decent used one for less than $150.

That being said, if $40-$60 dollars still makes a difference to you, get the Pentium D 915 instead of the 805 or 3000+.

I would also suggest that you avoid the 800 series Pentium Ds and at least go with a 900 series if you don't feel you can go with an X2. The 800s are relatively difficult to keep cool.

I would also get a 920 or even the 915 if it arrives soon....Avoid 800 series heaters....

AMD aside I would always perfer dual core in multitasking versus single core...even if that means Intel netburst chips...

If you can wait a few weeks maybe the cheapest Conroe you can buy....
