i have a prescot 3.2 ht on an asus p5p800 and a thermaltake v5000D mid tower. why does my cpu idle at 55C without overclock. i have a thermaltake silent 775 cooler on it, which shoule be better than stock, i also notice it runs slow in games and other programs.. why is that? dont just hate on me cuz i have a pentium thats not the point of ths thread..

thermaltake = poor coolers for the most part. That one looks like classic TT looks over substance i'm afraid.

Christ, all the reviews of it are utter ******, yes we've got a 2,500RPM fan that only makes 21dBA! No one makes fans that quiet at that speed, the quietest fans out there are around 20dBA at 1K rpm.

No, it's probably better than stock, it's just you'd be even better off with a SI 120 with a good fan.

Now that's out the way, look at the case airflow, is the hot air being exhausted from the case? Also how much thermal paste did you use, it's too easy to add too much, i know i did. You're only supposed to use a grain of rice worth of paste.

It could be that the fan isn't running at full speed even at load. Speedfan is a must, it can tell you what speed the fan is at and let you program what point it should be ramped up to full speed at.

I have the same cooler and it cools just fine, actually pretty damn good. That being said, I would assume that you may have not used enough thermal paste. Take the cooler off and see if it is making full contact with the hsf. Also check this out!

I have found this to be true and so have other happy intel users!
