Ok well here we go :

Main Problem : Blue Screen Lockups, Programs producing errors, Random resetting.

Supposed Cause : Memory problem, Win2k problem -- dunno 😛

Specs : P4 1.8A, Asus P4B266 SE (onboard C-media sound), 512mb ddr, Leadtek GF2 Ti VX 64mb DDR

OS : Win2000 Sp2 with latest HotFixes and Patches

Updates : Nvidia 2183 WHQL approved, Intel App. Accel., 1005 Asus Bios (latest)

Synopsis:

1. Opened photoshop, closed it, open IE blue screen...

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.... nv4_disp.dll

Downloaded WHQL approved drivers for my GPU, but the problem continues. (Previously latest version, 28..)


2. More blue screens, sometimes even after moving the mouse after 30 minutes of no activity

c:\winnt\system32\services.exe status code 128 -- ok on the MS website, this is a gateway server error but im only running a home pc...


3. After opening 3 programs, perhaps closing, upon clicking on IE nothing happens, then every button on the desktop has no effect.

I have no idea. This is a fresh install on a NTFS partition, with basically nothing installed.

Are you overclocking at all? If not, I would suggest trying a new stick of RAM and see if you get the same problems.

I just got this error then...

According to Microsoft Support, this error can me the results of

a) faulty RAM - system or video based -- video might explain the nv4_disp.dll error, but never had this error previously in another system

b) anti-virus software -- norton is always running, hmm

c) anything 3rd party! -- whoa, hmm

Those sound like heat problems--is your HSF seated properly with thermal grease?

HSF? Dunno, just used the fan and little pad that came with it - it sits fine at 40 degrees celcius.


I'm still trying to crack the ram problem, do u know where i can get a program which analyses DDR RAM?

That's a likely cause of your problem.... I've had a few problems with Notrun anti-virus, try your PC without it and see if it works OK.

I've fixed a few friend's PCs crashing problems by removing Notrun Antu-Virus, PC worked fine before it was installed, they installed it, PC didn't work properly, removed it, PC worked fine again, may have been an older version than you're running and they may have fixed it by now, but it's worth a try.

Here is a link to a program called Memtest86. It makes its own boot disk and thoroughly tests memory using varying patterns. If your memory is bad it will find it.
