Pentium 4 HT or Pentium D ????

Was curious as to getting some onpinions. Was wondering should I use a model number 641 Cedar Mill Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz or a model number 930 Pentium D 3.0 Ghz. They both run stock at 300FSB and are socket 775. I will be overclocking. Any opinions highly welcome as this will be my first time overclocking. Also any advice on overclocking in general will be appreciated!!! Thanks.

You would be better served to forget the P4 and the PD. Clock for clock, the Core 2 architecture is about 30-40% faster so....

My suggestion for a budget CPU would be this:
Intel Dual-Core E2160 Allendale 1.8GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

I won't be paying for either of the two processors. A friend of mine I did some work for told me I could have my pick between the two. Apprciate the the advice!

pd 930 obviously much better choice. 65 nm, you could oc to 3.8ghz easy. Also it's a true dual core unlike p4 ht.

Cedar Mill is 65nm as well. But I still agree the PD would be a better choice these days.

PD for the win!! You can make pancakes for breakfast from the cpu fan I bet hhee. It's really a no brainer since HT isn't a true dual core.

Well we don't know if you use any multithreaded programs since you didn't mention ANYTHING about your usage. However the pentium-D 930 should be the lesser of 2 evils, since at least it's a dual core. There is really no reason to get a single core anymore, with dual cores being so cheap(or free in your case). LOL, but real friends don't let friends use pentium4's /D's.

actually their stock fsb's are both 200mhz. basically, the 930 is 2 3ghz cedar mills on the same chip. so, chalk up another vote for the pentium d.

pentium D. cedar mill has a 200mhz advantage but its single core. i'd much rather take an extra core and lose 200mhz which i can easily overclock to.

besides, i have a pentium d 930 and its just fine...overclocks to 4.1Ghz easy too.
