You might not have to wait too long.
As near as I can tell from this site, we
have an engineering sample 1.8 Northwood that shows up as a Xeon on WCPUID @1.45 Volts
with a TAISOL (air cooling) and A LOW RPM DELTA!!!!!, gets an easy overclock to 2329MHZ.
(PC166 RAM on an ASUS P4B)

Ehhh...I'm waiting for Anand's roundup of the leading i845-B boards. It should be out soon...

Roundup? I'm just waiting for a single review of a single DDR i845 board. A roundup would indicate that we already know how some of the other i845 boards perform, and that we're waiting for a final review. We only have assorted benchmarks.

And from those assorted benchmarks, it has been indicated that the DDR i845 (ASUS P4B) are almost as fast as the i850 RDRAM solutions. This indicates to me that DDR i845 boards will be as fast as VIA P4X266A boards and almost as fast as SiS 645 boards (with DDR266 and/or DDR333).

AGodspeed,

Anand mentions this in his latest preview of new motherboards (November 19):

Not seeing any value in being on the show floor, AOpen joined the majority of the Taiwanese manufacturers in the Venetian. They naturally had an 845 DDR solution which we should be receiving soon for our upcoming roundup.

I get the impression that Anand will receive a bunch of i845-B boards at once from the likes of ASUS, MSI, Abit, Gigabyte, etc, and he'll post one big roundup.

Boy, it seems like the world + dog really wants to push out DDR i845 boards and their respective processors as soon as possible. I think these companies (mainboard manufacturers, et al) are betting on Intel's new products to increase PC spending and pull out of this semi-recession.

That's a good idea, my tech stocks need to start rising. :D

I'm not in the know on Intel these days, so excuse my ignorance, but:

1)Is Intel going all DDR now? Or just that certain chipset?
2)Pricing?
3)Do these new boards have the 533(?) FSB?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sticking with Rambus in the hopes of being able to run at 4x 133MHz FSB. I still think PC 1066 Rambus will be te way to go

1) The last roadmap I saw show no more RAMBUS in Intel's lineup in a year or so. Here is the thread.
2) i845-B should retail within $5 of the SDRAM version. That is why Intel is waiting for people to clear their inventories.
3) No. Still 400Mhz.

Personally, I think that's still pretty damn steep. The lowest price I've seen on ASUS P4B boards (PC133 RAM only) have hovered around $155-160 shipped. The cheapest i845 boards are ECS boards, and those are still $110 shipped.

I also read that it'll cost $45 to make i845 chipsets. Therefore, you can expect the cheapest i845 boards to be about $115-120 shipped. Top-tier boards will likely be around $160 and up shipped.

Intel has recently signed to continue with Rambus.

Samsung will be implementing new technology that should see significant Rambus price drops by Q2 , 02- which may have an impact on Intel's roadmap.

Either way I suspect Rambus will be with us to at least mid way through 2003, maybe longer

It would be absolutely dumb for Intel to forego 32-bit RDRAM when their 64-bit processors and future P4 designs will want the headroom in bandwidth.

<< I'll let Wingznut comment on pricing if and when he can. >>

I can comment on the pricing, as soon as the boards hit the shelves and there are pricetags stuck on them. Is that soon enough? ;)
