Well don't know what you do with your system, don't know what the rest of your components are, so you need to give a lot more info first..

Ok, and what are you using the computer for. Your CPU isn't exactly all that slow, but you gotta give the info or it's gonna be impossible to help..

do you game alot?...or do you do alot of office work, or encoding....

if its just for gaming then upgrading your cpu won't make any big difference since you're probably gonna be GPU bottlenecked in most of the games...

but if you do some work, then maybe a better processor would help

If you game alot, and that's your primary concern, a video card upgrade is what you need rather than a CPU upgrade.

I don't want to upgrade my card yet because I wanna wait until vista is out and get a Direct 3D or Direct X 10 video card.

Well then you might as well hold off on upgrading, because upping the CPU is not gonna make much if any differance in games. BF2 would benift from going to 2gb of ram, but still not gonna be able to use high settings with an X700 pro.

My cards ok for bf2,these are my settings and i get 35+fps:

display mode:1024x768 @75Hz
terrain:high
effects:high
geometry:high
texture:medium
lighting:medium
dynamic shadows:medium
dynamic light:medium
anti aliasing:4x
texture filerting:high

i used this guide: http://www.firingsquad.com/guides/battlefield_2_optimization_guide/
on half -life i use all high settings, anti aliasing 6x on 1024x768 and get perfect fps
