Pentium 4 2.8 Prescott...too hot for HTPC?

Hello all.

Need your opinion. I have a Pentium 4 Prescott, 2.8 GHz CPU that I'm looking to put to good use. I've been wanting to build a media server, but the idea of a HTPC intrigues me as well. So maybe I can combine them both! Problem is, I want to house this machine in a HTPC case. It will be full-size desktop ATX, but these are still pretty tight once built up.

So my questions is, is this CPU too hot for this application? The heat charecteristics of the Prescott are infamous and I haven't been able to get too much info at several HTPC site about using the Prescotts...they either talk about non-specific P-4 or various AMD cpus (very popular!).

FWIW, the rest of the build will include:
- nMediaPC HTPC 400SA case with Fortron 400 watt PSU
- nMediaPC IceCone CPU cooler
- Foxconn 915P7AC-8KS m/b
- 2 Gig of DDR 400 RAM
- 500-800 Gigs of Seagate h/d's
- ATI and Happauge video, capture and tuner cards
- Samsung DVD-RW with LightScribe
- Auzentech X-Plosion sound card
- Adesso RF Wireless k/b

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions...

yes id say that cpu is way too inefficient and hot to be used as a HTPC... unless you want to upgrade your cooler it will still be a space heater

Aye, shyte!!

Oh well...was thinking this was probably going to be the case. Looks like this Prescott's going to be headed for media server duties only.

Thanks, guys...
