Okay, I don't have a board to test these in @ the moment, they are 512k cache versions, but they are engineering samples, do they have an unlocked multiplier?..
and as a question, do any slot 2 boards offer multiplier adjustment if it is unlocked?..It sounds out there for a server board, but why make these unlocked if the board can't do anything with them,
well hope some one has some answers..

If their engineering samples they they will in all likelyhood be unlocked. There are a small handful of Slot2 boards with multiplier adjustment abilities but it's not common.

Some Slot2 boards can adjust the multiplier. And besides, engineering samples are meant for internal use/testing at Intel and I'm sure Intel has board that can adjust the multiplier freely. They were never meant for public consumption.

Haha, good point Rand, It was late last night when I posted that, was really mainly looking for differences..
hmm, well If i can pick up a board with some adjustments for a reasonable price, it may be worth playing around with..

thanks :)..

Since a standard non-Xeon P2-400 chip comes with 512k cache too, I have to wonder how much of a performance difference you'd see with a Xeon version of the P2-400 at 512k of cache.

Xeon's cache advantages at 1meg and 2meg are easily seen, as well as support for greater SMP than 2 cpus, speaking from experience. ;)

I was wondering that myself from the research I have been doing myself, The one thing I would like to try is to run these @ a higher frequency and see if Intel has higher quality yields in their Xeon chips or not..

what I would give to have some 2 meg cache Xeon's...

The yields on the Xeon PII's even with only 512KB L2 were never very good, I wouldnt count on being able to get a very good o/c out of it.

Well, the 512kb is performing at full speed now instead of half speed like on normal P2's.

Rand, do you know how the yield's were in comparison to the regular P2 400's with 512k cache?..
